GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Considering that this forum supposedly loves Sabaton, a subpar Death album is doing quite well at the moment.

Temple of the Dog for reasons explained earlier. I'm very surprised and pleased to see it doing so well.

Sabbaton isn't amazing or anything, but it's much easier to listen to than Death.

Star One & Soen in their respective matches get the votes as well.. It hurts to see them getting crushed like this. Where are all the ProgFans? :(

Temple of the Dog is nothing special.

Sabaton and Death are basically tied but I'll vote for Sabaton just to avoid the tie... (wait. that's an ambiguous sentence :O)

I'm not too enthusiastic about either Nuclear Assault or Star One but the latter is more unique...

Sadly the two best albums here are fighting, and I'm obviously choosing Soen. I did relisten to Dreamweaver and I've heard it as more than just 00000 thrash this time, Do Dark Horses Dream of Nightmares is especially good. I also began to love the lisp vocals :)

Big bunch of meh this round.

Love Cornell and like Temple of the Dog but it just never resonates beyond fine. System of a Down is interesting but not for me.

This game first elevated my respect for Death, then erased my tolerance for them. Yes, you’re so authentic, shut up already. I’d rather have Neither, but forced to choose, I’d rather take the awful bowl of greasy cheese sauce that is Sabaton, no matter how sick it makes me.

Blah, blah, blah, look at me, I’m metal (but not much else) describes Nuclear Assault. I voted for Star One even though I’ve already forgotten the song, except that it seemed long and pretentious and I might have liked it in a different mood.

See Nuclear Assault comments for Sabbat. Soen was probably the only thing I would ever consciously make an effort to listen to again outside the context of this game.

The time between the two Death albums in question, and Scream Bloody Gore being their 1987 debut?

Ah, my comment was less about the album and more about Death in general. Repeated exposure during this game has taught me that I respect them, but I don’t like them and I don’t really want to listen to them any more.

Ah I see now, thanks :ok:

Temple of the Dog chases System of a Down. SOAD will be back in Match 27.
Sabaton byooories Death in hyssstoooreeeyyyy! Death's back in League 10.
Star One is vaporized by a Nuclear Assault. That was Star One's only album in the GMAC, so next Nuclear Assault will be against Evergrey.
Soen falls to Sabbat, who starts a minnow run. Let's see how they do against Anthrax next time out!

Some easy votes for me. As previously stated, I've never loved Led Zep. Some of their harder, more metal-adjacent work is really good, but II is just lacking in that for me. Whereas King Diamond is classic metal, even if this particular track doesn't hit metal as hard as I would expect from a @DJ Dityn James nomination. Still, King Diamond in a walk.

I don't love Pink Floyd either, and while I don't like Kreator, I'd rather listen to a Kreator track than listen to Pink Floyd 9/10 times. We'll round that up to 10/10. This one's for @Black Wizard. Kreator.

Nosferatu won because it has an awesome title track over a power metal album that was wearing out its welcome. Once you get away from that admittedly great title track, the rest of the album is far more pedestrian and blah. Meanwhile, Balls to Picasso is at least quite interesting. Bruce Dickinson.

Finally, I'm pretty familiar with Satyricon. I did a discography listen a few years ago. I can't stand the vocals, but the music is neat. And while I appreciate what Porcupine Tree is bringing to the dance, I don't find myself drawn in by them. They're very good at what they do, but what they do isn't for me. I wouldn't listen to Satyricon regularly, but I would listen to them from time to time to see what sort of music they're constructing. Satyricon.

Oh, there's a voting day here as well? Not that I'm complaining. :)

Edit: Damn, I'm just too tired. But will get back to this tomorrow. Something to look forward to...

I gave my opinion about Led Zep in a previous round: yes they're influential but that doesn't mean I have to vote for them.
This Led Zeppelin album is more filler than killer so an easy vote for an underrated and very enyoable King Diamond album.

I had this Kreator album but sold it last year with a bunch of other albums I didn't listen to anymore.
Not a bad album though, great riffs and melody. Ironically enough, I bought Wish You Were Here last week so it's pretty obvious I'm going to vote for this masterpiece, although Pink Floyd is far from being metal.

Balls To Picasso is a very good Bruce solo effort although not his finest work. The opening track is one of the highlights.
BloodBound is very happy sounding melodic metal, catchy as hell and right up my alley but my vote goes to Mr. Bruce Dickinson.

Porcupine Tree
is one of the many bands I still need to discover. This song makes me want to dive right into their discography.
Satyricon is a band I won't ever listen to again. My loss I guess.

King Diamond was nice because the posted song didn't have any singing, but man that Zeppelin album is classic, no contest.

Pink Floyd once again violates the rules by picking up the ball, running across the field with it, and throwing it into the net. Kreator wins by default. Pretty good if not somewhat generic. It wasn't graceful, but they got the point.

It's an Iron Maiden forum, I probably don't need to sing Bruce's praises, but Balls to Piccasso on its own is one of the more interesting and unique Metal albums out there. It's surely more exciting than the plain riffing and bad vocals on Nosferatu.

I've gotten to a point where I am always excited when I see @Magnus on the list of Maidenfans nominators. The Satrycion was enjoyable, I love the cheap synthesizers and, all things considered, the sound and balance of the instruments was pretty good. Dug the vocals too. Still, Porcupine Tree is an all time classic and is really tough competition.
