Dance of Death was one of the albums that hooked me on Maiden, after Brave New World.

LC I think we already went through all that again, didn't we:innocent:? Lets just say that in my book The Wickerman chorus is one of the worse ones I ever heard. In most other cases the chorus repetition might complement a song.In the specific case it is just holding the song from progressing.Of course this my own opinion and I was quite disappointed by the song onfirst and on 1000th listen .

In this I agree with you, for what I suspect to be the first time ever.

Or top 3. :notworthy:
I honestly might say that also..it's probably impossible for me to definitively rank all 15, since I sincerely do enjoy every single one, and don't believe there's any bad ones. But Somewhere in Time is my #1, then possibly Peace of Mind, then Dance of Death.

This is quite absurd. :D How, in this world, DoD can be above SSOASS, Powerslave, killers, IM, and yes, even TNOTB? Without considering AMOLAD and BNW...

All 4 reunion album are vastly inferior to any material up to 1992. Have a nice day

I've never understood the medieval imagery for Dance of Death or the castle stage set used for Death on the Road.

The title track is about a boozey guy stumbling through the Everglades who happens upon some campers. He starts prancing around them in a drunken stupour, tramples through their campfire, nearly extinguishing it. He starts a fight, says a quick goodbye and runs off into the dark (probably having stolen some camping equipment). Next morning he wakes up completely hungover with no recollection of the previous evening although he does remember being told that if he ever set foot in the Everglades again he'd be dancing with the dead.

Nothing medieval about it. Great album though....its in my top 6.

Montsegur?

Yeah, Iron Maiden has never used repetitive choruses before The Wicker Man....

Repetitive choruses are 100% part of Iron Maiden's history. Deal with it.

You forget the best of all:

Don't you think I'm a saviour
Don't you think I could save you
Don't you think I could save Your life

Montsegur?

The title track has that little nod to historical music, post-medieval in my book. The Danse Macabre was a concept in medieval art. It refers to the idea that ultimately, judgment comes to all, there's no discrimination in death. In those days it was meant in a religious sense, today it could be considered in terms of judgment by later generations. Apply such a loose theme to your interpretation of the album as you see fit... ;)
