If you define that as a song equal parts well-known and respected by the fan base and popular in the set list, I'd have to say it begins and ends with Wicker Man, with some love for BNW and Blood Brothers. DoD and PFD might qualify from the fan perspective, No More Lies and TCDR from the band's.
What has established itself on the set list now and is played & regarded as a modern classic, in the way older classics are? Very few of those, I'd say mckindog. Only DoD comes close to qualifying really.
Talisman. Discuss.
Might become one; has potential. Can't call it one now surely?

If you're looking for something punchy I suppose Wicker Man fits the bill of modern classic. Hence it's first track on BNW and was the opener for shows at that time. There's a nod to the past in there but with a new invigorated appeal.

I don't regard anything that sounds like such-and-such a "classic". So none of those come into my consideration. I regard any overplayed setlist staple that I'm sick of listening to a "classic". The last one to fall within this category is FotD for me personally...
Wickerman is the most played. Haven't parsed the numbers further.

Nice link, btw. Nice to see "Guitar Solo" making an appearance at #15...

I always thought TWM was a lost apportunity.I mean that the solo is blistering.Bruce's voice is spot on. But the main riff sound like a poor man's running free.On the other handthe chorus is so boring and repetitive. It is a song that is neither fast nor slow. ×××takes cover×××

Talis(ker)man is a song that kind forgets that it needs to end at some point.

The Wicker Man I imagine.

I'll accept the criticism of the chorus, but the riff...it certainly does the job.

Well, the riff is not that bad, it is that I always expected a better opening track for the return of the mighty lineup.Something with harmonies, fast and rocking.

The riff is the plainest, most ordinary guitar riff ever. It's almost as ordinary as 2 Minutes. That said, it's a storming track. It's as close as we're going to get to a post-reunion classic I suppose. I don't feel anything really qualifies under Gk1's "modern classic" tag though. Apart from, as I said, DoD.

Agreed. The pace & energy save it though.

It's one of those 'how do you define...?' issues. I'd actually like to know what the best known reunion era song is, particularly outside of the overcontemplative Maiden community.

I always found DOD really similar musically to The edge of darkness. The main melody and the chords. All I am looking for is orignality. So Starblind -although it has a similarity to Infi ite dreams - is pushing the envelope. The constant guitar soloing, the storming vocals, the odd rythm, the excellent lyrics, the exploding second part.It just does it for me...although I think Nicko could have done a better job

I'd be shocked if the best known reunion era song outside of Maiden forums is anything other than The Wicker Man.
