Powerslave got my vote, although Piece Of Mind would be a tie. The first one hasn't got a single bad song on it, and the second one has to me a sentimental value, as it's the first Maiden album that I actually owned.

I have similiar feelings on that Mav, except Powerslave was my first METAL album.  Plus, I am a guitarist and I absolutely LOVE the solos on Powerslave!

Mine is AMoLaD.  It's easily as good as any of their 80's albums, and is a lot better than the last six albums (though none of them are bad either).  I love the three guitars, and all the members of the band are really in top shape.

I felt the need to post an updated toplist of my favourites.

The X Factor
Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
A Matter Of Life And Death
Brave New World
Piece Of Mind
Virtual XI
The Number Of The Beast
Somewhere In Time
Iron Maiden
Dance Of Death
Powerslave
No Prayer For The Dying
Killers
Fear Of The Dark

The X Factor
The Number Of The Beast
Brave New World
Fear Of The Dark
No Prayer For The Dying
Iron Maiden

My favourite album is TXF. Best lyrics Maiden ever had, fantastic sound, lots of fantastic compositions, Maiden were not afraid to take on the whole world with this one by changing almost everything that defined them and coming out on top. A true fighter of an album.

After much thinking, I decided that A Matter of Life and Death is THE best album ever made. The band is in top shape, and there's not a single bad song on it. Enough said.

....as I was about to see your post I was saying to myself : "please, don't dissapoint me, gor"
2 guys that appreciate here you and Perun vote for X....it's so hard to believe it

Don't be dissapointed man. Be dissapointed only by those who cannot back up their choise. :) My 2nd and 3rd favourites are Sevent Son and Iron Maiden. Each of the 3 on top are there for their own reasons, each one is the extremity of paths maiden have followed:

Iron Maiden - Raw and agressive
Seventh Son - Mystical and Grandiose
The X Factor - Introvert and personal

In my opinion, every other of their albums contains a percentage of those 3 basic directions, while those 3 are kind of like prototypes for each of these directions. Emotionally, I'm closer to the introvert and a bit pessimistic nature of TXF, and it came out just as I was starting to really appreciate Maiden. That explains why it is my favourite album, although, strictly musicaly, the most potent album the band has made is undeniably Seventh Son. Cheers

That's a great verb!

Due to the recent flurry of activity here, I'll rank my albums.  Keep in mind this is all rough and could easily change next month.  I feel I'm still getting to know most of the songs and albums, especially 'Fear of the Dark', 'Killers' and 'The X Factor'.  I only post it now so that I may compare it a year or two down the road.  Next to the album, is a general impression of how the album opinion has changed since 2003.

A Matter of Life and Death -- N/A
Powerslave -- improved
Brave New World -- went down by 1
Piece of Mind -- was my fav
Number of the Beast -- improved
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son -- ?
No Prayer For the Dying -- improved.
Dance of Death -- improved, was worst
Iron Maiden -- improved, was second worst
Somewhere in Time -- ?
Virtual XI -- went down by a lot.  I think lack of Blaze's range has affected my opinion.
The X Factor -- went down by a lot.  Used to be way up there.  I have not listened to it closely since early August.  It'll probably improve.
Fear of the Dark -- went down by a lot.
Killers -- went down.

Are you joking with me?  ;)

"?" refers to the fact that I do not recall what I thought of these albums in relation to others back in 2003.  My favourite should be obvious.  It tops the list.

Right, here's my full list of Maiden albums, in ranked order.

=1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
=1. Somewhere in Time
=3. Piece of Mind
=3. The Number of the Beast
=3. Brave New World
=3. A Matter of Life and Death
7. Powerslave
=8. Iron Maiden
=8. The X Factor
=8. Killers
=11. Dance of Death
=11. Fear of the Dark
=13. No Prayer for the Dying
=13. Virtual XI

The gap between the top 10 is ridiculously small, especially AMoLaD -> 7th Son.  Dance of Death and Fear of the Dark have their moments as well, but aren't as solid as the rest (but they are very close to equaling Killers et al).  No Prayer For The Dying is great, but I think FotD just pips it.  Virtual XI is my least favourite Maiden album, along with No Prayer, but they both are highly enjoyable listens and far surpass the worst by any other band.

OK, I'll have a bash at this (but remember, this could change with a simple press of the "play" button):

1. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
2. A Matter of Life and Death
3. Piece of Mind
4. The Number of the Beast
5. Dance of Death
6. The X Factor
7. Brave New World
8. No Prayer for the Dying
9. Powerslave
10. Killers
11. Iron Maiden
12. Somewhere in Time
13. Virtual XI
14. Fear of the Dark

Seriously though, I had a look at that and thought - "is this what you really think?". It almost became a random choice. I cannot choose as I would gladly play any Maiden album and be happy with it.

01. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
02. A Matter Of Life And Death
03. Fear Of The Dark
04. The X Factor
05. No Prayer For The Dying
06. Piece Of Mind
07. The Number Of The Beast
08. Brave New World
09. Somewhere In Time
11. Virtual XI
11. Dance Of Death
12. Powerslave
13. Iron Maiden
14. Killers

I love all of Iron Maiden's albums, but The Number of the Beast is my favorite. It's the first Iron Maiden album I ever listened to back when I was twelve years old in 1982.

gotta be Seventh son for me awesome album with no bad songs also i love Dance of Death aswell.

Seven deadly sins
Seven ways to win
Seven holy paths to hell

Seven downward slopes
Seven bloodied hopes
Seven are your burning fires
Seven your desires...  :yey:

Heh, first, I thought this cannot be decided by me. But then I realized that:

1. The X Factor
2.-5. Iron Maiden, Killers, Powerslave, A Matter of Life and Death
6.-10. The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Brave new World, Dance of Death
11.-14. Somewhere in Time, No Prayer for the Dying, Fear of the Dark, Virtual XI

Hmm, as you can see, something of the dubiousness (is it the right word for not being able to decide?) has remained. But the first is quite clear. Blaze is there (but this not helped the VXI), Sign of the Cross is there (my most favourite IM song) and other songs are quite good too. My first IM album. Somehow lacks the repetitiveness of the VXI, it is dark - that is what I like. Several of the X Factor songs, I tried to learn when I started learning guitar (and they sounded strangely nice using accoustic guitar combined with my poor skill of that time and my brother's voice - far from Thingfish's excellent interpretation :-) I understand that there are lots of fans who do not like TXF, but in the end, it is only a matter of tastes.

So hard to decide! my top 3 are Powerslave, SIT, 7th Son...

I think I'll have to go w/Powerslave. Flash Of the Blade has the best harmony guitars EVER!!  :yey:
Powerslave is Bruce's best solely written song, I think
and then theres Rime...13:38! Yes! "...And the moral of this story is this is what not to do if your bird shits on you. THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER!" His best line!  :D

Back In the Village is an underrated IM song, IMO. Maybe they'll play it live on the next tour? That would be nice!
