Don't expect an update before Monday/Tuesday. I have to listen to this a few more times before voting but I'm going to a festival during the weekend so won't have time.

You're right, that Making of album is cool. Well, the second CD anyway. The first one is really for hardcore fans only and I imagine it won't get too many spins even from them. Apart from the hilariously bad Petrucci TSCO vocal demo. That's a must-hear. :D

Yea that first disc is more something you listen to once and never again. It's a cool document though.

There's also this:

At least, he makes fun of it (his incapacity to sing this high), which makes him liekable. The very end (with Portnoy's comments) is great. I miss those days a lot.

The "there can't be no turning baaaaack" backing vocals by Petrucci and Portnoy on LSFNY is also... very interesting! ;)

This is the start of what I consider DT's golden era. It's also no coincidence that it corresponds with Jordan Rudess joining in. The next five albums are all superb in their own right.

Scenes is a fantastic concept album, and most of the tracks stand out on their own so much better than Astonishing or disc 2 of 6DOIT.

A few brief thoughts: Fatal Tragedy, Home, and The Dance of Eternity are all phenomenal; Overture and Deja Vu are also quite good. Dream Theater's ballads have always been hit-or-miss with me. I either seem to love them, or dislike them immensely, with almost none in the middle ground. For whatever reason, they work on this album. Through Her Eyes, One Last Time, and The Spirit Carries On are all very solid in my book.

Now for my controversial opinion: I'm not a big fan of Beyond This Life. I feel like I should like it, but it just doesn't click with me for some reason. I rarely say this regarding DT songs, but I feel like it's a lot longer than it has any right to be, and would be vastly improved if it was about 3 minutes shorter. Most of the instrumental parts of this song just seem unnecessary to me.

Now for my Votes: Regression, Through My Words, Beyond This Life, One Last Time. I feel a little bad about voting for One Last Time, but only 3 songs would be too few to vote for at this stage.

(I also contemplated voting for Finally Free, but I already did enough damage for one round. :p)

And promote Change of Seasons!

Also, thanks to this survivor I've not only rediscovered WDaDU, but I've been playing it a lot lately and I must say it's very fuckingly underrated. In fact, I am now pretty sure it's my #8 DT album. I hear Rush all over it, and not in a bad way. And out of these wonderful, underrated track, probably the most underrated is Status Seeker. Such a funny and catchy song.

My thoughts:

Regression - Meh
Overture 1928 - Some solid melodies and riffs but will probably vote for it soon
Strange Déjà Vu - Pretty good although I wish they repeated some cool parts instead of adding new ones
Through My Words - Useless
Fatal Tragedy - Amazing song, one of the best on the album
Beyond This Life - Some cool stuff but way too much wanking, should've been 2x shorter, maybe even more
Through Her Eyes - Average ballad but won't vote for it now 'cause I don't wanna be associated with some ballad haters here :p
Home - Probably one of their most consistent 10+min songs, great atmosphere and lots of catchy parts and no wanking
The Wank Of Eternity
One Last Time - Cool ballad. Dunno why @JudasMyGuide thinks it doesn't work on its own, but then again he thinks Rudess > Moore, so w/e :p (Iryo though)
The Spirit Carries On - Bit better than Through Her Eyes, but I have similar opinion on it.
Finally Free - Y'all who voted for this song are out of your mind, it's an incredible song to close this album...however FUCK OFF DREAM THEATER AND FUCK YOUR FADE-OUT ENDINGS. Learning To Live, Scarred and this one all have incredible melodies/riffs at the very end that are ruined by retarded fade-outs. Fuck fade-outs so much. I don't give a fuck if they did it to this song because of the plot. Fuck fade-outs. The plot ending doesn't really bother me since it's the last song anyway and I just move on to something else after the music is over.

Voting for the songs in bold + Glass Moon and Lines. Gonna update now, so will lock the thread.

Regression - 14 votes
Through My Words - 14 votes
Through Her Eyes - 10 votes
One Last Time - 8 votes

Promoted:
Hollow Years
Lines In The Sand
Trial Of Tears
A Change Of Seasons

Again TTT and LTL (because I want to see Met 1 and Glass Moon promoted and all serious Petrucci fans should want the same, at least as far as UTGM is concerned)

Overture 1928 and Strange Deja Vu. I can't bring myself to vote against those other tracks so far, but then it's possible that from the very next round nothing is safe bar BTL and Fatal Tragedy, I guess.
