I submitted my setlist prediction for The Future Past Tour in the appropriate thread and I will be standing by it, but I came up with another plausible setlist today that I figured I’d post.
Intro: Blade Runner (End Titles)
1. Days of Future Past
2. Sea of Madness
3. The Trooper
4. The Writing on the Wall
5. Stranger in a Strange Land
6. Lost in a Lost World
7. Heaven Can Wait
8. The Time Machine
9. The Prisoner
10. The Parchment
11. Wasted Years
12. Iron Maiden
ENCORE:
13. The Clairvoyant
14. Hallowed Be Thy Name
15. Alexander the Great
The more I think of it, the more I wonder if "Lost" and "Parchment" are the two Senjutsu epics that get played. They just have the most explosive live energy to me. Additionally, "Fear of the Dark" is usurped by "Wasted Years" as the penultimate main set crowd anthem, and elsewhere "The Prisoner" has replaced TNOTB and "The Clairvoyant" has assumed the fifth classic position left open by FOTD. This is another good setlist that plays around with the expected classics and feels a tad fresher than the other take I had.
Additionally, there's been some talk about a 50th anniversary tour post-TFP. I came up with a possible setlist for it a few weeks ago but never posted it. Here it is:
1. Murders in the Rue Morgue
A throwback to the Beast on the Road Tour.
2. The Trooper
A classic, gotta have it. Hitting the audience with it as the second track ups the excitement.
3. Ghost of the Navigator
One of the most popular BNW songs, a moodier one after the opening rockers.
4. Still Life
A deep cut from POM and one of the songs I'd most like Maiden to dredge up again.
5. Dance of Death
One of the reunion era's most popular epics and a song the band is willing to perform live given the TFF Tour, it makes sense to bring it back.
6. Coming Home
A hard-hitting ballad from the reunion era, would be nice to bring it back here.
7. Total Eclipse
A deep cut from the TNOTB days, following the new vinyl release of the record and the new mix from last year, plus Bruce mentioning how much he likes it, I could see them going for this one.
8. Paschendale
Another DOD epic, but another one that's immensely popular. After only briefly appearing on the TFF Tour, it may not be the band's most logical pick, but it would be awesome to see it live again.
9. The Clairvoyant
Assuming that the TFP setlist I posted above is wrong and it doesn't get played on that tour, it would be cool to see it resurrect here. In case it does get played on that tour, you can swap in an AMOLAD track like "Benjamin Breeg", or a Blaze track like "Lord of the Flies".
10. Brave New World
The title track to Maiden's first reunion release, this is a track they've played on a few different tours beyond the BNW Tour. Makes sense to bring it back here.
11. Rime of the Ancient Mariner
Yeah, it's time to play "Rime" again.
12. Fear of the Dark
Duh.
13. Iron Maiden
Duh.
ENCORE
14. Prowler
After going through quite a number of post-reunion tracks, it makes sense to throw ourselves all the way back to the very first Iron Maiden album for the encore. To fully celebrate fifty years of Iron Maiden, "Prowler", its first track, is in.
15. Phantom of the Opera
And following up on this is the band's first epic, foreshadowing everything yet to come.
16. Hallowed Be Thy Name
Finally, what better way to finish the show than with Maiden's most beloved song of all? It worked epically as the closer to the SBIT Tour, and it'll be a fantastic closer here.
There's a pretty nice representation here of songs from throughout Maiden's history, including a strong emphasis on the songs they've done post-reunion. The track breakdown is as follows:
Iron Maiden: 3
Killers: 1
The Number of the Beast: 2
Piece of Mind: 2
Powerslave: 1
Somewhere in Time
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son: 1
No Prayer for the Dying
Fear of the Dark: 1
The X Factor
Virtual XI
Brave New World: 2
Dance of Death: 2
A Matter of Life and Death
The Final Frontier: 1
The Book of Souls
Senjutsu
A further breakdown by era:
'80s: 10
'90s: 1
'00s: 5
An anniversary tour like this would be a fantastic next chapter in a string of incredible tours that started with TBOS, was deepened by LOTB, and further exemplified with TFP (assuming that we don't find out that the setlist on Sunday actually sucks). Maiden have been a bit more daring lately and should they do a history tour to celebrate their golden anniversary something like this would be fantastic.
