Crazy news 'round the globe

I don't like how they approach this anymore. It seems that they're moving the clock just for the press and to keep themselves relevant.
11:58 today and 50 years ago? 50-60 years ago people thought they're going to die.

I would say that a lot of people are feeling it now. People in South Korea aren't exactly happy.

I was thinking about the Doomsday Clock just two days ago. I was thinking 3 minutes to midnight though.

A female traveller was recently banned from taking a large "emotional-support peacock" on board a United Airlines flight, it has emerged.

She had offered to buy the bird its own plane ticket, according to travel blog Live and Let Fly.

Nonetheless the airline refused to let the bird board at Newark airport in New Jersey, saying it did not meet guidelines due to its weight and size.

United says this was explained to the traveller before she arrived at Newark.

Pictures of the striking bird and its owner emerged via The Jet Set, a travel-based talk show.

The images show the animal perched on an airport baggage trolley, as fellow passengers gaze at it in shock.

Airlines have allowed some passengers with emotional or psychiatric problems to take therapy animals on board with them.

But the number of emotional support animals has been rising in recent years, sparking suggestions that people are abusing the system.

In 2014, a woman was escorted off a US Airways flight when her pig, named Hobie, defecated and squealed before the plane took off.

Perhaps it is the shrinks or doctors or anyone else that actually "treat" those people are abusing the system. A person that can't operate without immediate aid is disabled by definition. And that's a legal status. So any professional that actually makes normal people (with temporary life issues) believe they need a constant aid, while not registering them as disabled, should be charged.

.

Outrageous. Next thing to happen is they'll refuse my emotional support polar bear entry to the cabin.

It's either one individual trying it on or a very bad choice of support animal. I know an autistic person who has a support dog - not prescribed, she was housebound and was amazed to discover she could go out, work and study, if her dog was with her. It's how you verify it when a person says they have an invisible condition. I'm sure there are people without a diagnosis of any sort who abuse the system, and equally sure there'll be people with severe mental illness or developmental disorders who will argue indefinitely that they should have the same privileges re odd choices of pets as blind people with guide dogs. As usual, though, the whole issue gets complicated by the popular belief that all of them are fakes or 'snowflakes'. In this country, I think it's generally accepted that you need to have a support dog of any sort trained, and registered with a relevant charity. That goes for guide dogs, hearing dogs, epilepsy alert dogs and emotional support dogs.

They also denied my request to raise cabin pressure to several atmospheres. Octopus and me agreed to find another carrier. Market forces FTW.

Brigs I don't think people are snowflakes, but they need to understand air travel. As you know it is meticolous and you can't just implement space for support pets. Pet is not a specification, dog, cat, bird, elephant, all require different spaces and conditions.

Hello there company, I have a low self esteem so I brought my domesticated tiger on board - I have all the papers ensuring that the cat is peaceful and harmless, and I have written letter from my psychologist that outlines how the lack of pet's presence negatively affects my health.

Hello there Mister Zare, why don't you take both your asses out of there and just walk to your destination?

Travel is not a right in any way, it's a privilege. Travel doesn't equal basic freedom of movement.

It's the side assumptions I'm talking about. The peacock on a plane thing was ridiculous and totally impractical, very few would argue about that, air travel has to be kept safe, and comfortable for other passengers, first and foremost. The reaction of many commentators, though, is repeating the popular idea that having a support animal other than a guide dog for the blind is always ludicrous, in any situation: that support animals are only ever pets kept for personal preference, or something prescribed by consultants for their own money making ends, and that people who have them are simply suffering from slightly low self esteem or minor depression. Would it help if they were renamed 'autistic meltdown dogs'?

I'm not the one claiming it's a right to take animals on plane, or even be on the plane in the first place, but I can see how a policy allowing guide dogs or animals of certain species on board is going to open a can of worms. Worms would make a pretty good support animal, come to think of it :p Fit nicely in your pocket.

Yeah, no animals should be allowed on board. Very simple and effective. We are always talking about ordinary carriers here. Organize your own charted flight and you can carry anything by your side bar contraband.

I am even surprised that this girl got onto airport ground. As in she managed to walk through airport entrance with her pet not being caged.
