Classic Rock Clue Game III - Round 5 part 3

#196 -‘You Oughta Know’ – Alanis Morrisette. Not exactly that classic, but this tune was a big hit and often featered in the big lists (out here at least).

To be honest, I am not very good at this. I'd be extra motivated to have a go at it if I'd knew which ones have not been guessed correctly.

The problem: you get points for repeating the correct guess another person made, if you agree with it. So there might be cases where saying a specific clue has been guessed correctly in fact gives it away.

Tomorrow, I will reveal which clues fit this criteria: at least three different guesses, and one of those guesses is correct. I'll do this every Tuesday.

Brig: Stick with it. It's a fun game. Probably the most fun game I've played on this forum (with all due respect to the other folks who have run other pretty great games here). My advice for the first few weeks: Just free ride by copying most of what others guess (I suggest you stick close to mckindog) and then make a few of your own guesses, if you think other people are wrong (again, no way in hell "Body Language" is on the list of Top 200 classic rock songs). After a while you'll get the hang of it. The more people who pay attention and actively play, the more fun it will be.

Here are the guesses so far:

#200:
henningdoug.jpeg
Cornfed Hick - Heart, "Magic Man"
mckindog - Styx, "Crystal Ball"

#199: Tolkien.
Mosh, mckindog - Led Zeppelin, "Ramble On"
Cornfed Hick - Led Zeppelin, "Misty Mountain Hop"

#198: Refusal to yield.
Cornfed Hick, mckindog - Fleetwood Mac, "Don't Stop"

#197: A story about the singer's day job before becoming a rock star.
Cornfed Hick - BTO, "Takin' Care Of Business"
mckindog - Van Halen, "Ice Cream Man"

#196: Angry sex.
Cornfed Hick - Guns 'n' Roses, "It's So Easy"
Forostar - Alanis Morissette, "You Oughta Know"

#195: Notoriously used in a 1987 Nike commercial.
Mosh, Cornfed Hick, mckindog - The Beatles, "Revolution"

#194:

Cornfed Hick, mckindog - Fleetwood Mac, "Gold Dust Woman"

#193: One of the first videos banned by MTV, after being aired at least once.
One of these is correct; this clue is now multiple choice.
Mosh - Queen, "I Want To Break Free"
Unknown One - Duran Duran, "Girls On Film"
mckindog - Queen, "Body Language"
Cornfed Hick - Van Halen, "(Oh) Pretty Woman"

#192: Ghost in the machine.
Mosh - The Police, "Spirits In The Material World"
Cornfed Hick, mckindog - The Police, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"

#191: Famous for a live version in which the audience sings the first verse and chorus.
Cornfed Hick, mckindog - Tom Petty, "Breakdown"

Make your guesses - about 48 hours left in this round. Remember, you get points for any correct guess, and there's no penalty for being wrong. Don't be afraid to copy others if you think they're right. If more than one person is right, the first to guess it gets a bonus point - but those who follow won't fall behind as far.

Also remember that you may change your guesses at any time. The guesses listed above are not written in stone.

I will also tell you this: some clues may simply be puns on the song title. Nor would I be so obvious as to use the album title for a song's clue... :smartarse:

I'm going to switch 192 to the spirit of radio because Cornfed is brilliant, I want to Break Free for 193 because Cornfrd is right on Body Language and Americans are weird about cross dressing, and You Oughta know for 196 because Im stumped and there is no way Closer is a top 200 classic radio song.

Question on 182: A lot going on in that photo. Is the Grateful Dead sticker of any significance, or is it a red herring?

By the way, that picture brings back memories for me, as my car in high school was an old 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible that we got for next to nothing at an estate sale. But the color was a ridiculous lemon yellow. It even had yellow hubcaps. My friends called it the Yellow Submarine. Sweet ride, and a spacious back seat -- essential in high school -- but the gas mileage was brutal. When I went to college my parents sold it for $500. I just checked: '76 Eldorado convertibles are going at auction for over $25K. Goddammit.
