BEST BAND EVER: Results!

@Forostar Geoff Tate was always going to win this group by a mile, but Anneke could still go through as one of the best runners up if she gets enough votes. That's how Floor is progressing. I'm sure @Night Prowler would let you change your vote. It won't hurt Tate's position to lose a vote.

I like Tate's highs and longer notes, but don't find much distinctive or unique about the rest of his singing, and there's a lot of layered vocals/harmonies involved in choruses, which can make just about any singer sound exceptional, so I'm not convinced of him being stand-out superior vocalist in this round. I'm going to go with van Giersbergen for this one. I checked some live and acoustic stuff, and her voice is definitely stronger and less sweet and poppish than some of the highly polished studio recordings would lead you to believe. I find her voice quite distinctive too.

As mentioned by others, Lennon's singing alone isn't his selling point.

irrational dislike for Rod Steward
No, it's perfectly rational. :devil2:

@Dr. Eddies Wingman @Diesel 11 can you help please? Tate has already won the group and doesn't need any more votes. She can go through as one of the best runners up.

Please please please please please please

I've sung enough praise about Anneke. Geoff Tate used to be good, but sucked for like 3/4 of his entire career + he pulled a knife on his bandmate.

I never particularly cared about The Beatles. Hell, I can barely tell apart who's singing what in their discography. So no particular care for Lennon either.

I'm not familiar with Rod apart from this song. He's fine on it, but these husky rock-ish voices don't do anything for me.

Eliminated after Round 87:
Anneke van Giersbergen
John Lennon
Rod Stewart

Promoted after Round 87:
Geoff Tate

Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN, DEMONS & WIZARDS)

Jari Mäenpää (ENSIFERUM, WINTERSUN)

Skin (SKUNK ANANSIE)

Warrel Dane (solo, NEVERMORE, SANCTUARY)

Skin has a wonderfully soft and soulful voice, but also packs some real power, and an ablity to move smoothly between the two styles. Weak is probably Skunk Anansie's best known song, and a better demonstration of her voice overall.

However, one of Skin's finest moments for me is Brazen, which uses that contrast between Skin singing soft and sweet and switching to full power (and back again), perfect for the contrast of burning anger and determination building inside an apparently meek victim

Hansi Kürsch is one of the rare power metal vocalists that actually can sound epic when he tries to ewoke an epic feeling. Not really a fan of Blind Guardian, but the only reason I consider them to be more bearable than other celebrated power metal bands is their singer. I think he really should give a shot to being a folk rock singer, at least do a folk rock album or two.
