You've got to listen to them to be able to mention them
. Like him or not, I don't recommend the G3 stuff to form an opinion on Satch or any of the others, these things are pure shred fests. If you want to hear some of his more laid back and soulful playing, check out Starry Night and Ten Words (simple verses, epic solo), for example. That said, when it comes to guitarists in a band, I can't argue against preferring a riff guy to a lead guy since you want him to play riffs 90% of the time.

Satch plays better, is more versatile, writes better songs, would fit better into the context of a band.

Losing Satriani to Mustaine is crazy. Losing Akerfeldt to Tipton is also crazy based solely on one’s ingenuity, but at least I understand it more because of classic metal bias.
