The drums on Ram it Down are very bad computer simulated drums in my ears. The crappy tracks on this album are terrible. If I was in the band I would have dumped the ideas of Love Zone, Come And Get It & Love You To Death immediately into the trash can.
But the other 7 tracks aren't bad. Actually, I think that the title track is amazing, Heavy Metal has good parts and I like the intro as well! Hard As Iron has an excellent midpiece. Blood Red Skies' atmosphere I like a lot. A bit of a Blade Runner feel. I think it's a strong song with great moments, the keyboards (or guitar synths) really lifting it all to higher level. Monsters of Rock and I'm a Rocker (what a solo!) are nice as well.
So imo it has some really strong moments but the worse songs put the overall quality down.
The drums don't particularly disturb me, but I love the album as a whole. Only 1 crap song in my opinion:
Love You to Death. Some other songs are half-bad (
Monsters of Rock) but get cancelled out by great guitar parts. The biggest downside on this album are cheesy lyrics (that I don't care a lot about) and somewhat too happy-sounding, power metally riffs.
I love
Ram it Down's beginning scream and the guitar solos;
Heavy Metal's construction (beginning solo etc) resembles an inferior version of Metal Meltdown;
Love Zone is catchy;
Come and Get It acts the same way as Monsters of Rock but is better;
Hard as Iron is an amazing song with fast and furious riffs, the sound is heavy as hell, the harmony is among their best, nice vocal things here and there;
Blood Red Skies; longer, more serious, another likeable song;
I'm a Rocker is very well built, superb guitar touches;
Johnny B. Goode is one hell of a cover, as good as Diamonds and Rust, however very different, the harmony is great and smoothly turns into an appropriate solo.
