I think it's worse that there will be 4 albums up there in the non Maiden edition from the same band. 4 Judas Priest albums?! We got all the albums in the world to choose from and nominate and we end up with 4 albums by one artist in the top 10. Shameful.. If that doesn't reek of narrow mindedness with regards to music i don't know what does :p

The underrating explodes from my screen. But I congratulate you with your first encounter with wide appreciation for this legendary and mighty influential band.

Black Sabbath invented metal. Judas Priest is metal. And since Maiden is a metal band, big chance that such an other important metal band drags a handful of albums to the top on Maidenfans, a forum consisting of mostly metal heads who are into good singers and exciting guitar playing. Since you have been co-responsible for eliminating lots of other metal albums (especially from Europe) in earlier stages, don't be surprised that one of the last and strongest bands of the genre is left. :)

Fixed. :p

Look, it's a metal forum, so of course metal will dominate. But any list of best albums ever that doesn't include a single Beatles album is kind of a joke. There wouldn't even be metal without the Beatles.

Just re-read that and realize it could be misconstrued as a knock on mckindog's game -- it isn't, I've thoroughly enjoyed this one. Is there a market for a "Best Albums Ever (non-Metal edition)" game after this one ends? Or, has there been something like that already?

Would Rush win that edition? Unless Rush is in the metal (side-)spheres as well. Perhaps it won't be easy to distinguish what is allowed and what not.

Agreed, we'd have to establish ground rules for what is and isn't "metal." We'd have to rule "in" or "out" certain bands like Rainbow, G'n'R and AC/DC. Even Rush itself presents an internal conundrum: I'd consider Caress of Steel a metal record (not that it would get nominated, let alone win), but not Signals or the later synth-based albums. Still, these don't seem like insurmountable obstacles.

I'd play. I'd host too if nobody else wanted to.

The exclusion of Pink Floyd and Beatles is pretty lame indeed. I agree with Sixes' sentiment that there is too much Priest, not so much because I don't like those albums but because some are taking the place of other albums that are more deserving. Judas Priest is a great band but 4 albums is a bit much, make room for other bands.

The game might be called Best Album Ever, but we all know it's more about discovering the albums we most have in common.
It's little wonder Priest did so well given the fact they have the most in common with the band we all love.

And I'd love to see some variations: "most influential," "best of the decade" "most overrated" etc.
I'd be happy to play many and volunteer to host the latter if there is interest.

Basically this ^^

Pink Floyd and Beatles may well be important artists in terms of influence, but if they aren't among the collective's favourites then they won't feature in what is essentially a favourites game. I personally don't really care for either.

I care for Pink Floyd but I agree wholeheartedly with Crimson and mckindog. As I argued in the past, this is a favourites game (Crimson), and I hadn't thought of phrasing it like this but it is indeed a good way (the best!) to see what we have in common, when it comes to liking albums (mckindog).

The "most overrated" might create some interesting discussions. :)

Well, now we're back at the infamous best vs favorite discussion. I already proposed calling this thread "Maidenfan's favorite albums" instead somewhere back in the preliminary rounds, round 13? 14? Which was basically shot down back then and lead to a huge discussion and a medal of stupendous boredom.

But all I can say is, to me there wouldn't/shouldn't be 4 Judas Priest albums in a Best Album EVER top 10, but if we call it "Maidenfan's favorite albums" instead I can better understand why it is so, but what does it matter really!! It is still very uncreative of all of us that we couldn't get more variety into our top 10, so in that case it is still... shameful :p Or is expecting more variety and albums from different genres too much to ask on a traditional metal forum? :D

There are no 4 Judas Priest albums in the top 10. They are in the non-Maiden top 10. Perhaps you know, but it should be carefully distinguished imo. One Judas Priest album is in the top 10.

These Priest albums are quite different, they do have a lot of variety. Although it can be argued that the eighties ones are more similar to each other than any other two Priest albums, Sin After Sin is very different from these and Painkiller is very different from anything they have done.

In earlier stages, I have even advocated against Screaming for Vengeance, but to no avail! :)

The highest scoring Priest albums were from 1977, 1982, 1984 and 1990.
Maiden's highest scoring albums were from 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1988.

Maiden's albums are even more concentrated in the absolute top of this game.
(I know this is a Maidenfans forum, but since you don't take into account with that fact when looking at Priest's success, let's skip that now as well, shall we?)

Priest showed more variety on this group of albums than Maiden did.

Speaking of different (sub-)genres, eras, and even styles, variety etc; I assume you are less happy with how Maiden ended up, compared to Priest?
