Probably should have waited a round before bringing the new group in, but what the heck :) lots to choose from, and this group of newer albums is much stronger than the previous.

And I've got to say I've been guilty of letting Dream Theater slip under the radar and that's not going to happen anymore.
They were promoted in 91/92, are poised to do the same in 93/94 and were only knocked out in 97/99 because of Bruce.
I know they've got a small but dedicated group of supporters on the forum, but come on the rest of you, they ain't that good.

Superunknown
Black Ice
Deadwing
Death Magnetic
Nostradamus
No World
Out Of Exile
Stadium Arcadium

The two best albums in this new group are by Opeth.

Octavarium isn't going to have my support for long. Neither is Black Clouds. It just so happens that the first 3 albums that joined are my favorites :p

Really besides Six Degrees, any other DT album that may join doesn't stack up very well

Mosh, have you ever given No World For Tomorrow a serious listen?
It seems right down your alley — smart Queensryche-style melodic metal on the front half, and increasingly proggy as you move through. A lot of variety and not a bad song.

I think I heard it back when I was preparing for the Maiden show. I'll give it another try though.

I'll use a phrase that I think KDH used when describing Dream Theater. They're a band I should like but I don't. I'm not going to actively look for reasons to dislike them like some have been doing with other bands, because it's just not for me. I totally get the appeal though.

I feel exactly the same way about DT as KDH does, so I totally get what you mean.

Porcupine Tree is another one of those bands. Though I like In Absentia a lot.

Listening to the Coheed now

I'm charmed by the lack of Chinese Democracy votes yet. It's actually one of my favorite albums on here. Like I've said a million times before, I adore 9 of the 14 songs on there. I don't expect it to go far, but still.

City of Evil
Death Magnetic
Echoes*
Nostradamus

* I actually think this is a great album, but for some reason, I cannot connect to it at any level. I'll be fine if it remains since it seems well-written.

As a side note, I'm surprised there were two people who didn't vote for Nostradamus. I feel like I enjoyed it more than most people did, and I still voted for it. :p Oh, well.

I like Nostradamus. It's flawed and bloated, and tough to swallow in one listen, but it has some good songs.
Alone is one of the most epic things Priest ever did.

I haven't been able to get into Noz. I can respect that they did it though.

The Coheed was decent. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. One thing about it is that I recognized all the songs that were played at the concert, 6 months ago. Those are some really memorable songs.

I also really enjoy Nostradamus, Persecution/Exiled were two of the earliest tracks to stand out to me, it has some great heavy and soft songs on there. I think if it had less interludes/intro's people would rate it higher (even though they fit it fine), other than that it tends to just be that people like an album to be consistently heavy or soft, not a mix.

It changes for me a lot. Pretty much impossible to decide. I guess Piece Of Mind since it's pretty much been the foundation of my musical tastes.
