Regarding my nominations: I'm quite confident that Stones & Doors will do it. But even if not, they are well known, no big deal.
So I ask you to second the Hawkwind albums, but mostly Edgar Broughton Band's self titled. This now cult group, certainly deserves some further discovery. And this album is its best effort, imo.

Voted against:

Screaming for Vengeance
Peace Sells
Reign in Blood
[all three are great, but others should go through]
all the new ones except: Chemical Wedding, Nightfall, and OK Computer

+1 Ziggy Stardust

1971-72 will make for VERY interesting voting! Those first five are ridonkulous. Plus Machine Head. With the Stones' two best albums and Ziggy Stardust not even qualified yet. Wow.

Wonder if people will crush Zeppelin IV too. It's probably the most well liked of the Zeppelin albums, but also the most overplayed.

Looking through my iTunes for other 71-72 albums and noticed one of my favorites. I doubt it will get far, but it is truly a legendary album.

Neil Young - Harvest

I have a really bad feeling about Welcome to the World in this round.

OK Computer
Queens of the Stone Age
ReLoad
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Unleash the Beast

+200 Ziggy Stardust.

I actually haven't heard a lot of these unfortunately. I love how Bruce's albums are faring the best out of a group of legendary albums. Only on a Maiden forum. Though they are two of my favorite albums.

Chemical Wedding is one of the last albums I'd consider voting for (all game long, not just this round). It's really up there with the best of the best.

What I get from this post is that Helloween mixed a bunch of stuff that has been done before. Nothing really new here. Which is my problem with Kai anyway, he's a great player but he's hardly original. Even Iron Savior is filled with Judas Priest ripoffs, though I'm aware that he hardly wrote the stuff on that album. But he did write Gamma Ray's music, and the amount of ripoffs by that band (and I've heard every album) is a bit shocking. At one point I think they even began to ripoff themselves. And since you mentioned, I don't really like power metal drums.
Kai Hansen has indeed become less original in the last 10 years, and had not much to do with the Priest influences in Iron Savior. But we're talking 1985-86 here and Walls of Jericho really brought a fresh new style. I disagree strongly that it has been done before. Yes he mixed some stuff that had been done before, but it's not just the mix. The vibe, energy and use of harmony in the guitars at such speed made big impact.
Listen to this:

The aggression, the speed (and the melodies within the riffs). I don't think that was done before like this.
The drive from 4:53 and onwards is hard to match by any band. Also, the bass in Helloween is pretty unique in metal. The way Markus Grosskopf waves his melodic patterns in Helloween is a strong and original feat.

You can dislike the voice, the production, the lyrics, hell, even the music if you're not into such energetic and raw stuff. But I don't think you can take away the credit for how this changed the metal scene.
Now despite all of this, there is material that I like. Both Keeper albums are good, The Dark Ride has cool moments, Heading For Tomorrow is the best GR record
The debut album the best record? Alright, every one his own preference.
, and Rebellion In Dreamland is epic.
Absolutely.
Sail On would be my favorite song.
I don't like it much myself. Very different music as well, but the vocals annoy be a bit on this track.
Though not as bad as Helloween's out of key singing, unoriginal speed metal and crappy uninteresting lyrics. :D
We keep disagreeing but at least the hard rock encyclopedia are in my line when it comes to the importance of Helloween's role. :)

I second:

Hawkwind — Doremi Fasol Latido
Mahavishnu Orchestra — The Inner Mounting Flame

I voted against everything apart from:
Moving Pictures, Screaming for Vengeance, Sabotage, Sad Wings of Destiny, Sacred Heart, Accident of Birth, Chemical Wedding & Unleash the Beast.

@Ariana: I like the first Psycho Motel Album quite a bit better. And also the Saxon* album in this group. That's why I have to vote the way I did, I'm afraid.

*If people have the chance they should really listen to this Saxon album: Unleash the Beast. A very strong gem which should not be overlooked to easily. Some songs are among the darkest they did and there are many memorable melodies and choruses. Also, this album features some of their best guitar solos. I think it stands out above the rest of their discography, head and shoulders.

Really? I thought Welcome to the World was the better of the two. I certainly prefer Andy Makin to Solli.

I don't like Makin that much. But I also like the song material better on the debut. It's like Adrian put too many songs on the second, including some weaker songs. The debut album is just fine and I really like some of the calmer stuff on it. Western Shore has some great atmosphere while the softer songs on the second album feel too sweet and drowsy at times.

For no reason, I'll list my favorite albums from this group :

1. The Chemical Wedding
2. Still Life
3. Sad Wings of Destiny
4. Moving Pictures
5. Scenes from a Memory
6. Wish You Were Here
7. Master of Puppets
8. Peace Sells...but Who's Buying?
9. Accident of Birth
10. Rising

1971-72 will make for VERY interesting voting!
I realize that more bands have suffered and will suffer from this aspect but I am afraid that it is a bit unlucky that both Master of Reality and Vol. 4 are in the same group. It's hard to believe that both albums will make it (but you never know). I like this duo more than the first two Sabbath albums. Darker, cooler guitar sound and also more variety and texture in the music, especially on Vol. 4.

I prefer Vol. 4 myself but I certainly rate Master of Reality higher than most others in the group.

I took a machine gun to the 97-99 stuff because, like Foro, I was trying to protect Unleash the Beast.
Not a lot of people seem to know this one too well, but just a fabulous classic-style metal album.
Anyone who is a fan of Judas Priest — and we seem to have a lot of those — should love this one.

Listening to the Stones albums to see if they've got enough to challenge the faves in '70-71.
