I'd nominate more albums but I see no point in doing that cause most people here would rather choose a 70's than a 00's album... :grumble:

This :P

There are several albums flicking through my collection that I'd totally vote for over many of the existing.. but know I would also be the only one doing so :P (WASP - Babylon for instance... no one would ever vote for that :P Ever)

Some of my recent 'cant stop listening' albums from that era in time are:
Iron Savior - The Landing
Heaven and Hell - Devil You Know
Sabaton - Coat of Arms
Sixx: AM - This is Gonna Hurt
Chickenfoot - Chickenfoot

But I could not see them getting any votes, or certainly not enough votes to last.

Devil You Know is already in (as is Chickenfoot).
But as many are saying above, I'd be surprised if this crowd doesn't administer a swift beatdown to this era compared to the first three.

In the words of a certain cartoon character...

D'oh. I was so late into this round I made only a quick skim, it shows >.>

I'm curious what happens next with the early '90s group — 17 albums, 16 of them with four or more votes.
Will the bulk get wiped out in the next round, or will a few dig in?
Some really interesting, diverse albums there, but not a lot of consensus.

I actually really like JLB's voice, but I have a lot of weird favorite vocalists. Blaze Bayley is in my top 10, maybe top 5 favorite vocalists.

Rules are here:
http://forum.maidenfans.com/threads/best-album-ever-survivor.25528/

Eliminated last round: Are You Experienced, Court of the Crimson King, Diary of a Madman, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Crimson Idol, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, No More Tears, Slave to the Grind, Use Your Illusion I & II

Nominations from 2009-12 are closed. A Dramatic Turn Of Events added to the game.

This round will only be open for two days

Black Sabbath (Let's be honest now. How many songs do you think are classics here? I can only really remember the title track and N.I.B. It's an important album, but we've already eliminated other important albums too...)
Led Zeppelin II
Fair Warning
Badmotorfinger
Countdown To Extinction
Metallica
Nevermind
Ten

Red is probably King Crimson's most accessible album, especially for a metalhead.
Apart from the album closer, Starless, the album is very unmelodic and some people would say it consists out of self indulgent wankery. :)

The debut album has, apart from Moonchild (a lengthy and shitty out of place improvisation, temporarily ruining the mood of the album) some great melodic and atmospherical songs.

  1. Black Sabbath (Let's be honest now. How many songs do you think are classics here? I can only really remember the title track and N.I.B. It's an important album, but we've already eliminated other important albums too...)
Side two isn't very good indeed. But I like the first four songs pretty much. I'll reconsider it in the next round (if the next era won't come in already).
  1. Abbey Road — The Beatles
  2. In Rock — Deep Purple
  3. Led Zeppelin II — Led Zeppelin
  4. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band — The Beatles
  5. Fair Warning — Van Halen
  6. Mob Rules — Black Sabbath
  7. Badmotorfinger — Soundgarden
  8. Countdown to Extinction — Megadeth
  9. Images and Words — Dream Theater
  10. Innuendo — Queen
  11. Metallica — Metallica

So which album do you like the least ?

From this list, Fair Warning is really the most difficult album for me to bear. Yuck.
It's probably that party (hair metal?) vibe. Such style lacks excitement, tension or drama that I long for in rock and metal. Instead of these ingredients, Van Halen gives us "Dirty Movies" and "Sinner's Swing!".

Van Halen certainly can be guilty of what you describe, but Fair Warning isn't your best target.
It isn't the party, it's the morning after — some darker, grittier stuff on there.
Don't listen to what Roth is saying, listen to what the band is playing.

There's not a bad album up there.
I'm voting against Rage, Vulgar, In Rock, Nevermind, Ten and Countdown — even though they are all great showcases for what each band can do, I like other bands better.
I'm also voting against Black Sabbath, Badmotorfinger and Innuendo — each of those bands is capable of more.

EDIT: Seems to me I really didn't answer Foro's question.
Worst albums up there are Rage (rap vocals not my thing), Vulgar (lack of nuance) and Black Sabbath (what Vap said).

I don't even think it is a song. Random sounds and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long for my liking.

On Vap's recommendation I listened to that album (Red) and I liked it, even though I don't like (70's) progressive rock. It's heavy.

Voted against everything except: all the Sabbath and Beatles albums, Zep 2, Moving Pictures, Vengeance, Nevermind (underrated on this forum, apparently) and...Rage. Yes, I voted against Rage last time, but I almost immediately regretted it. That album was completely awesome when it came out, and it holds up well. [EDIT: Listened to it in the car this morning. It's still completely awesome. "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" might be the purest expression of the rock'n'roll ethos ever written.]

Hardest choice was voting against Fair Warning -- I side with 'Dog and disagree with Foro, as that is my favorite VH album for the reasons stated above. It's still not in the same league as the others, though. I also disagree with the people who are disrespecting Sabbath's debut. The whole album is excellent and even the songs that aren't "hits" add to the spooky atmosphere (e.g., the creepy harmonica intro to "The Wizard"). Plus, this forum may not even exist if that album had never been released.

Red is a fantastic album, my favorite of the band. Starless may very well be a Top 10 song of all time for me.
