Adrian, Janick and Dave's guitars and Steve's basses

Adrian and Richie used painted guitars for the (effects) video of ''Black Light''. The Strat looks like a glam metal guitar.

He probably won't use it live, but it would be cool.
It's cool to see Adrian using an HH but in S-style. He's used plenty of HH Gibsons and Jackson V, but I don't really ever recall seeing him play an HH S-style like that apart from the original spec of the 86' Jackson, but that was HSH. The splatter paint reminds me of the Phil Collen signature Jacksons.

It has Seymour Duncans in it, which leads me to believe it must be somewhat a decent guitar - I'd imagine he may bring it out on tour if he does SK shows, maybe.. Doesn't look like something he'd bring out for Maiden, but hoping then Jackson will do something cool for him for Maiden's tour, whether it's a new production model or just a custom shop for H.

Those guitars were props as Richie said. However, if they want to do something with Splatters/Swirls, there is a guy who paints amazing versions of them currently. He did guitars for Gary Holt, Kerry King, Joe Satriani and the 35th Anniversary Ibanez Steve Vai model.

Yeah I would have thought just basic props - just seems interesting they'd load up Adrian's one with Seymour Duncans - Richie's one could just be a basic player Tele. Cool to hear that John McMurtrie painted them.

I found this picture today somewhere on the internet, this clearly isn't the famous checkerboarded bass from WST, NPFTD and FOTD tours since the one from the photo has a maple neck and AFAIK the original one has rosewood (I also think the original chess bass was red), this might be a different one that Steve acquired by BNW time (unless the original checkerboarded bass was re-necked), so, does anyone know about this bass?

I think this is indeed a different one, The original is a '59 Precision.

This looks like a Fender Custom Shop job. That's around time Steve started working with Fender, so it makes sense...

Does anyone know if Adrian used both #1 and #2 sunburst Strats in the RIR 2001 gig? And in which songs did he use them?
P.S: In case he used #2, was it tuned to drop D?

I think he only had the drop d sunburst strat during the DOD tour. I would like to see a picture of his guitar rack from 2000/2001.

@matic22 will confirm this though
Yes. #2 was a standard-tuned guitar backup guitar for most of the tours since 1999, with the exception of DOD (#2 was in drop D and the standard backup was probably the Jackson Superstrat) and Early Days, where it was the main standard-tuned guitar (#1 was it's backup).

There is a photo of his guitar boat from that era. He only had 4 guitars with him. Both sunbursts, the cream Strat and the LP Custom.

Thanks for this. I’ll have a look for that photo.

It was good to see his old Jackson on the rack during the DOTR documentary. It looked like it went from being a warmup guitar to a backup.

It would be nice to see that kind of photos in the Infinite Dreams book, since Maiden’s instruments will hopefully appear, so, some rack photos could be seen!!

Btw, thanks for the replies!!

I doubt there will be those, since I don't think Halfin or McMurtrie ever took them. The instrument photos were probably taken by McMurtrie at IM warehouse in recent times (and some probably at Adrian's and Janick's as they keep some of the touring guitars at home when off the road). And the Destroyer is at Adrian's house.

Does anyone know what happened to Adrian’s Sunburst Strats? I know #2 was last seen on the Legacy of the Beast tour as a warm-up guitar, without the Roland GK3 (there's a video somewhere of Adrian playing it during LOTB for a warmup), and as far as I know, it’s currently at his house in Gerrards Cross (I read that on this same thread). #1 I think was last used at SBIT as a backup/warm-up guitar (I think it’s the one seen in Flight 666 when Adrian does a blues jam), but I don’t know where it went after that and if it still has the GK3.

GK3's were removed. Both were used during 2011 TFF rehearsals (along with the cream strat), as they needed to use alternative guitars due to the main ones being weighted and packed to the plane. At that point they didn't have GK3's.

Also, #2 had a peace sign sticker, similar to the one on the SG, on the comfort cut during AMLOAD tour, but it was removed shortly after.

BTW, a lot of TFF was recorded with #1 Strat (title track, Starblind, Avalon). That album was apparently #1 Strat, the Goldtop and the original 1986 Jackson.

Thanks for replying my friend!

Maybe it was the tone, but I thought TFF was recorded with just the Jackson and the Goldtop (because live). His studio tone was a little different than for the previous album (all Reunion albums actually), maybe to have that prog feel. Is recording with different guitars common for them? I think not, right.
I found a video of the #2 Strat with the peace sticker on it, this is it:
That sticker looks cool on a Strat and SG, idk why. Like an 80's guitar.

The main difference in tone of the two records was the amp. For example some of AMLOAD was also recorded with the Goldtop, but it sounds different.

AMLOAD is Marshall 6100 anniversary model and a Randall. During SBIT Adrian switched to JCM 2000/DSL 100s, which resulted in a different tone. AMLOAD and it's tour were quite thinner than SBIT and TFF. BNW and DOD were done with ADAs and JMP1s.

For example, Blood Brothers, Lord Of Light and El Dorado were all recorded with the Goldtop, but all sound different. It's more about the amps, microphones and the studio than the guitar.

Going back to older times - does anyone know what the guitar Davey is holding in this photo is? Apologies if it's already been answered somewhere! I don't know if I ever saw it in any other photos or video than here
