Adrian, Janick and Dave's guitars and Steve's basses

@matic22 I have a question for you about Adrian’s Jacksons. When did he actually start to use them again? I remember being excited when I saw a photo of him with his new model at the first show in India 2008. He used the double necked Jackson the previous year for COTD and I remember seeing videos of him using the black and white one backstage on the BNW and DOD tours. Was the black and white one ever on the rack or was it used as a warmup guitar? Do you think he was going to switch to Jackson earlier than 2008?

Jackson was limping before they got bought by FMIC (Fender musical instruments corporation). Charvel is the same story. That happened in 2002. Afterwards they kept the existing artist rooster while trying to broaden it. I guess Adrian was contacted around 2006 and the prototypes were built in 2007 (he recieved the first ones 8431 and 8432 at the Download 2007 show). 8432 was the main guitar until the end of TBOS tour with a small exception, while 8431 is still used as the main drop D guitar (sometimes swapped with #2 prototype with the chipped pickguard). Double neck Jackson had nothing to do with it, as it was bought in the 80s.

The black and white Maiden England one was a warm up guitar, with the exception of 2003, where it was a backup for the #1 Sunburst Strat, as #2 was tuned to drop D. It had its pickguard swapped between 2005-2008 (that could be the catalyst for launching signature models - Adrian needed a new pickguard and ordered it, so the talks began) and was the main tremolo standard tuned guitar during 2011 TFF tour. Adrian changes his main guitar every 10 years or so. I think 2007 was time he started thinking about it and talked with Fender/Jackson

Is there a photo of the 8431 prototype and the #2 prototype together? Are those 2 distinguishable?

Does anyone know what were the guitar techs of the 3 amigos over the years? I’m looking for some photos of the Maiden’s guitar boats, I don’t know if I can find some information through the guitar techs, maybe I can.

AFAIK in the 80’s Bill Barclay was Dave’s tech and Peter Kirkman was Adrian’s (at least early 80s, Idk if he was the tech in late 80s too) Kevin (Batty) Walsh was Janick’s in the 90’s (I don’t know about Dave’s tech in the 90’s) I know that the current techs are Sean Brady (H), Eddie Marsh (Jan) and Colin Price (Davey) but I have doubt about Dave’s tech for the 90s/early 2000s and Jan’s/Adrian’s techs from early 2000s.

I have checked my collection of tour programmes and Peter Kirkman was Adrian’s guitar tech in 1982. Marcus Cowe was responsible for Adrian’s backline in 1983, with Rob Price taking over in 1984. I imagine this change was following Marcus Cowe’s death: Powerslave is dedicated to him and he appears on a picture with Adrian on the World Slavery tour programme.

Marcus Cowe was the brother of Simon Cowe from Lindisfarne.

Adrian is renamed as Glen in this interview!

Thank you very much for the info!!

@matic22, which one is the #2 prototype and which one is the 8432? (Taken from flight 666 film)
Left is 8431 and right is 8432. Both are first prototypes of each model. 2nd prototype of the ebony board model was stolen in Greece in 2008. 2nd prototype of the maple model has a chipped pickguard.

1st prototypes didn't have Adrian's signature on the headstock and are finished in matte white. 8431's original neck was intentionally broken in Germany 2018 and was since replaced with a production one.

Thank you! That’s cleared lots up for me.

Will he ever change the green Jackson as his main guitar for a couple of years... doubtful right, because he likes it a lot. Now he only has to use a blue one.

edit: the new tour will be appropriate for this and he likes to bring something new for the tours. Or for the next one, time period-wise.

Yeah it’s time to change the main guitar, the last guitar that Jackson gave to Adrian was the green one in 2016 (without counting the 2 Minutes to Midnight one) so I hope Jackson gives H a new guitar this year, I’d like to see a blue one, a red one or a cream one.

I think the swap will happen before next tour if there is one. The green Jackson doesn't have a high mileage due to Covid.
