It turns out that the bust-up in the Ghana team was about money. I'm not entirely sure what all the fuss is about. Playing for your country is a privilege not a chore, right?

Of course we'd all play for free for our country. The problem is when Ghana gets millions for being in the world cup and you promise your players money and don't pay them. The Ghana football federation had the money but wanted to be cheap bastards.

I missed this post. The federations of participating teams are awarded a prize money for their qualification, most of which is given to the players. African federations have a way of keeping the money to themselves, it's been discussed before. The problem is not getting paid (players are not paid for playing for the national team), it's getting robbed off of the money they earned.
