News 18th Studio Album discussion

I was thinking...

if Simon tunes his drum kit in the studio the way it sound live now (not the cymbals though), it would probably be one of my favorite drum sounds on an album. The fatter sound would give a kick boost in the studio sound, methinks. Kind of like En Vivo! drum sound, I love it and I think it's the best one, even stronger than RIR. Btw, the Knebworth 2014 official live clips are worth mentioning in this regard.

I doubt many if any fans would bother showing up outside Guillame Tell studio. Maiden aren't exactly Taylor Swift altough the fanbase is quite similar.

That's incredibly naive. Of course there would be fans who would think it was a “brilliant” idea to be close to the band during the recording sessions and maybe meet them.
I've read complaints on forums/groups for much less popular metal bands that the band didn't come out to the fans waiting outside during the studio recordings to take photos and sign autographs.

But I'm sure Iron Maiden (the management) aren't so naive as to not know that.

I think we're talking about different kinds of folks. It's one thing to travel to one concert (or even a couple if it's back-to-back) and combine that with some kind of trip or holiday. It's another thing to chase Maiden on their tour and see them 5, 10, 15 or even 20 times in various cities and countries. I talked with a couple of lovely Serbian blokes back in 2023 who started doing that. It costs them a lot of money, but they want to take advantage of this as long as they can, since Maiden will retire at some point in the future.

It's not a moral judgement. "Normal" in this case talks about the average fan. And I can guarantee you that the average fan is not going to travel the world to see multiple concerts.
The economics of it are bizarre for fans who do this but aren't very rich. They must work part of the year to generate savings they spend to go on tour and attend dozens of Maiden shows for weeks and months on end. As said above, the kind of fandom whereby Maiden become the primary focus of life with the absence of other things really does exist.

I am not judging it, but it's a fairly new phenomena. With lower cost airlines and tech moving forward in the 2000s making it possible.

By comparison, I took the FC coach trip from the Uk to Paris on 9.9.99 for Ed Hunter when I was a teenager, and it was an extraordinary thing to do for lots of the fans. (Channel Tunnel was only open for a few years by then, people used to hop over the channel by ferry mainly around then.)

I have since taken several back-to-back Maiden shows / holidays abroad including Australia in 2024 and its really fun, a way of rolling in exciting holidays and seeing Maiden, so not judging anyone here (though I only see 3 or 4 shows per tour, more than enough for me given zero setlist variation).

I wonder are there people who fly out to Paris when they hear that Maiden are recording. Or do the sightings come from people who are already there for other reasons?

I think it is rather unlikely that someone from the minority of fans who want to take secret photos of Maiden during the recording sessions would happen to be in Paris at the right time. But for this other obsessive type of fan, it would make sense to fly there, and they would be proud of such photos.

"Steve can't be bothered recording a new album because it's too stressful"
They have one year off so i think SJ would be their last album. If they have 2 or 5 more years for touring thats what they are going to do. Rod said they want to tour and if they go to the studio would be another year off. So 2027 2028 and touring in 2029. At their age that is a lot of time to not be doing shows. I dont see maiden playing at 75 years old. Maiden as we said before is not the rolling stones their show is very physical expecially bruce even without running.

I take your point generally speaking on the above but you certainly can`t guarantee anything about the behaviour of others , different strokes for different folks and all that.

May 22th: Kevin Shirley records the show.
May 23rd: Day-off in Paris. The band, the management and Kevin meet and plan the recording of Album 18, according to their respective schedules and Guillaume Tell's availability.

There's no way anyone is flying to Paris to take photos out side of a recording studio.

Not only to take a photo. But combining a visit to Paris with being close to Iron Maiden during their studio recordings, sure.
Unfortunately we have to understand that just because we personally think a plan is completely nuts, that does not mean everyone else does.

Yes, especially during the recording of “their legendary last album.” We were there in Paris!!! That would be a no-brainer for this type of fan.
