18th Studio Album discussion

Absolutely THIS. They are no amateur school band and don't let the press start the promotion before they themselves have a promotional concept.
That btw is also the reason I'm quite sure they had the deal with hiring Simon fixed way earlier in 2024 than December 10, when the press announcement was made.
Hadn't they already played once to see if he was a good fit at that point? Planning like that takes weeks and months anyway. There's no need to let everyone know as soon as possible.
Bruce said the band tried Simon at a rehearsal mid october and it was enough to choose him for the replacement of Nicko

Someone made a calendar of the Maiden/side project related dates over this year and there was a sizeable gap early October through to end of November. While Bruce is out on tour through October in the US, and Steve starts BL tour end of November, Davey, H and Jan will be hopefully well rested - I'm wondering if perhaps there's space for recording IM18 Oct/Nov 2025? While Bruce is on tour in September, the rest of the boys could potentially be able to be working on musical ideas? As they've had over 5 years of 'preparation' it's totally possible that some song ideas have progressed and they could spend 6-7 weeks recording.. It's just hopes & dreams I think, but there is possibility there!

What are your thoughts?

Is there a tiny bit of chance that the album is already recorded?
Tbh, I don't think Steve is lying when he said there's nothing recorded yet or plans. They've had plenty of time to record since 2019 (and certainly written and demoed ideas), he works on his songs alone, but they have their own habits for writing and recording, especially for the last 2 albums. We also don't know if Nicko will be involved. We know they like to work in secret and they know it's about time for the next album (recorded 6 years ago, released 4 years ago). Maybe something additional was recorded in 2019, who knows.

Writing in parts (like Bruce's solo album) has been done before (DOD, TFF albums), but recording in parts, nope, I think. They are a band, and Simon wouldn't feel like part of it, they need to work and interact with him directly in the studio for the development of the songs. As we know, they record live playing together in the room.

Still, Bruce's comments about next year and 2027 are odd, as if they won't be that active in 2027 or they might record and release in the next 2 years (release 2027 or 2028). They need 3 months plus some time off after that.

Do we really want them to record an album with Bruce’s voice tired after two different tours (Maiden and solo) on the same year?

If they are going into the studio, I think we have to look at a 6 month gap between other commitments. Although the recording itself might only take a month, maybe 6-7 weeks with writing, there is still work to be done after and in any case they will want some time off before and after.

I don’t think they will make a new album anyway.

A small gap. I dont think so. Early 2027 could be the moment to record

My guess would be they get the 50th anniversary stuff out of the way and any spare time is devoted to solo projects. Bruce still has business interests in aviation that will take up some of his time as well

Heck me might even get that Davey solo album one of these years.

"People in North America" probably hints tour and the documentary. "The other places" - probably the other continents and... dates in European countries and cities they didn't visited this year. Iron Maiden should release special series of vinyls / cds related to 50 Anniversary. Same as Motorhead did.

Another/a potential hint?

Bruce: ''Next year is kind of busy for several other things, which will make people very happy, especially in North America, but I shall say no more because my manager will kill me... This Maiden tour is doing incredible in Europe. In 2026, it's kind of an open secret, but there are places we have not yet been with Maiden''.
So the surprise is other countries.

Maybe those words are interviewer's ones, but if he didn't have some informations directly from the singer, he wouldn't have written this in his column/interview with Bruce. So, that's some kind of hint about new Iron Maiden's album he got straight from Bruce. ;)
I know this is an old post, but journalists insert their own words into articles ALL THE TIME. It’s very common to see them add in their own opinions and present them as fact.

I think Bruce mentioning having a lot of spare time in 2027 hints at Maiden not doing anything too extensive that year, this is the best case scenario for them to record something that year, for a release on October setting up a 2028 run.
No chance we see an album in 2026.

Bruce will record his next record next year, for a likely release early 2027, whatever Maiden plan to do in the summer will be Brief giving Bruce a lot of flexibility to also do a solo run.

This works out best for no conflicts of interest either.

With Bruce's hype, yeah it's possible. But he won't tour solo next year, so several other things/busy is still curious. What, more stuff related to the anniv?

^He has no problem with Maiden's schedule. And he confirmed that Maiden's plans are a year or couple in advance. He also called his solo stuff a little bit more varied than Maiden's.

About the spare time, he has it next year too, the first 4 months. I don't disagree with you, but if 2027 is Maiden shorter tour in the summer (I still doubt a 3rd leg, why ''waste'' a whole year with more of the same most likely, because of not enough time for writing and their solo schedules... sad; then just ~20 dates from a new tour in Europe? Possible, right) plus extensive tour for his new solo album (like 40 dates), then a lot of spare time is wrong to say. He also said there's a window in 2027 for something. They'll find time to record in the fall, ofc. It seems like they'll probably extend the gap between albums by another year! Releasing albums in the same year is probably odd for them, idk, to not have comparisons... time for promo? Bruce is the man for both. If Maiden do a short 3rd leg in 2027 (maybe Part 2, that would be great), then the album most likely, because of their habits, should be released then after it, not in early 2028, so it's complicated.

3rd leg of the current tour in 2027(?), probably not. They are playng Europe next Summer. But now we don't now anything for sure, even documentary premiere. I think we will see one in November or even next year. I can't wait they say something more about this project.

The fact is the RFYL physical set is incredibly minimalist. Really, there are so few props that the screens dominate the onstage effects.

So there’s nothing to stop this 50th anniversary tour making way for a new album. You drop 5 or 6 tracks from the current setlist and pivot the tour concept - Voilà!

This is what they did across the Final Frontier 2010 and 2011 legs, with a physical set…

The question is when they might make such a move. Ahead of a 2026 leg? Later in 2026? Drop the x3 killers tracks, Aces Low, and one of the epics (7th son) and there’s already more than enough space to work in a new album.

Wishful thinking by me of course (b/c I desperately don’t want the RFYL concept and set to be the story of the next 1 or 2 years).
