Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

Sorry, but what is so special about hearing OTGDY? To me it is a good song but not great, not something I crave to hear live. But as I see, lot of people want to hear it. Is it because it really is so great or is it because Steve randomly mentioned it (I don't remember that people were crazy about it before that) or is it just because it hasn't been played live? Kinda like Sun and Steel, out of nowhere people believe it should be played live. Was not a singel, probably 6th-7th song in terms of popularity, quality. And I would say OTGDY is same, also maybe 6th (or 7th) best song on SSOASS. So what's the deal?
Exactly the point. As I said it wasn't a success, it wasn't popular, it wasn't a single that they've not been playing since decades (like when they unearthed Flight of Icarus), it wasn't the album's big piece that somehow failed to make its way into the setlist (like Alexander). There simply is no reason why they should play it out of nowhere, unless to make a gift to die-hard fans.

But, matter of fact, tours aren't (or very, very rarely, and even if so, only partly, are) planned with die-hard fans in mind. As I also said, they could have played the whole SSOASS back in 2012-14. That would have been the one and only logical reason to include OTGDY in a setlist. But they didn't, so bye-bye OTGDY.

It's a great song with one of the best steve bass parts in the middle, great hook and chorus. lyrics with a humane message and a simple but bitter philosophy. I always remember this song after an early death of a good person. if a band like metallica, rush, priest, cure, dream theater (whom are big bands too but play most of their songs - not just the big hits) has a song like this they would play it hundred times. so as fans, of course we would like to hear this one over the over-played hits.

I don't really have much of an opinion on the topic, but OTGDY is miles better than ATG. Apples and oranges since the only thing in common between the two is they're both the last track on their respective albums, but it's not exactly like ATG vs. SSOASS is going to end up as anything short of a complete curbstomp. It's such a shame in a way ATG was the song the fans latched onto and mystified since I'd rather had OTGDY instead.

Pretty much matches my thoughts perfectly on the whole OTGDY live thing, give me TTLBLAH any day .
Well, OTGDY was featured on Miami Vice once…
That`s really confused the whole thing now, if it appeared on one of the coolest cop shows of all time even for a few seconds then maybe it deserves it`s moment live after all. :notworthy:

Hi all. I wasn't sure which thread to post this in, but you might like to know that several Iron Maiden/British Lion band members have donated items to a charity auction in aid of Refugee Support Europe.

You can get your hands on the following:

- Tickets to see British Lion in concert
- A private concert from Tony Moore
- A pair of drumsticks signed by Simon Dawson
- A wristband worn by Steve Harris

The auction ends on 14th November. Three separate links below. Good luck!

It's purely because it was never played live. It's my least favorite on SSOASS (though that album is in my top 3, so even its worst song is pretty good) and normally I'd take dozens of other songs that I'd rather hear live. On the other hand I want as many songs to have been played live at least once as possible. So I'd rather hear OTGDY than any of the classics that appear on 5+ official live albums.

The only reason people want OTGDY to be played live is that it never has been played live, nothing to do with quality of the song nor the suitability for live setting. There are so many other songs that have been played live (that I have not yet witnessed) that I would love to see like Brave New World, Dance of Death, Afraid to Shoot Strangers and they work better live than OTGDY. And I would rather hear some rare song like Children of the Damned live again (which is super live song) than OTGDY.

The Thin Line Between Love and Hate is such a great song. Shame they never played it live!
I’m pretty sure they have played this live. I’ll need to double check but back in 2000 when I was a member of the fan club there were two things I remember.

First up the fc convention in London the day after the Earl’s Court gig. Last time I think the band ever attended one of these. Then there was the gig in the January after the Earl’s Court metal 2000 at the Shepherd’s Bush empire. I’m sure this was a special show only open to the FC as it’s quite a small venue. I went and I’m sure they played TTLBLAH.

EDIT: nope, just checked and the song wasn’t played at the Shepherd’s Bush empire gig in Jan 2001. I was mixed up with another rare song played that night which is one of my faves from BNW, Out of the Silent Planet.

No, they NEVER played it.

I was at both these shows at Shep Bush January 2001 (still a teenager, easy trip from my mum's place nearby in London...!). You are right they played rarities from BNW but it was Fallen Angel and Silent Planet. I have such foggy, delirious memories of those two sweet gigs... Bruce wearing his grey Lonsdale jogging shorts again that he wore in the 1993 era... walk on Eddie being too big to walk onto the stage!... and the sweet encore of these two BNW songs.

In my mind, those shows were so unreal that its almost like they never happened. I don't feel that about he Hammersmith and Brixton shows from 2005 and 2002 respectively because the venues are actually respectably big. But Shep Bush was like a club gig for them!

After seeing them at Earl’s Court it was a surreal experience watching them in such a small venue. Like you said it was more like a club gig.

My first experience of the band live was with blaze on the x-factor and VXI tours at the Brixton academy but when Bruce came back I was lucky enough to see 2 dates on the ed hunter tour, Paris and Rotterdam with the FC and then Earl’s Court so the venues got bigger then to be I. A tiny place like Shepherd’s Bush empire was great.

Brilliant times back then. The buzz about the band was awesome. Bruce and Adrian back, the wicker man was a brilliant first single. The ed hunter tour metal 2000, the FC convention and getting to meet the band and then Shepherd’s Bush empire.
