For me 'not using any studio tricks or technology" meant "no modern improvements over sound and recording methods etc.".

That's a logical interpretation too, so we'll see... Given Bruce's earlier output and the recent Balls to Picasso reimagining, however I'm quite confident that they want the album to sound sonically great too and there will be some polishing touches etc.

But yeah, it remains to be seen!

I had no issue with the production of No Prayer. I think the intent was for a stripped down, back to roots sound, also reflected in the tour production
The album starts with tailgunner and holy smoke if i remember well. Then no prayer for the dying and then a few 1 or 2 good tracks. But the start is not great

he also mentioned not "stitching" the songs together after the fact, so basically how all the Steve epics are done where they typically record in pieces

Metal fans are far too stuck on traditional rock instruments. Keytars and synths are fun and allow for a ton of new possibilities.

Whatever you hell you do, don't take that theremin away.

That’s straight out of Spinal Tap, the way he does it so seriously.

While simultaneously looking like he’s wanking it off.

It puzzles me how anybody would think that keytars have special "sonic" or "musical" qualities. The keytar has ZERO special sonic qualities. It's just a standard synthesizer stuck on a silly plastic toy. Nobody would ever play it because of its musicality.
