Anybody up for a forum collaboration?

Thanks for the info, @Yax! I'll most likely be recording everything DI since I don't have a great mic for recording from my amp. Should I put my own distortion on it or leave everything clean for you to play around with?

Just leave it without anything but the guitar signal. :)

And please sync the exported track (WAV), so that it is as long as the backing track (even if most of it is silence), so I don't have to find the right spots when I drag the clip into Pro Tools. Thanks! :)

Excellent! There's some sketchy timing going on at around 4:50, but other than that, nothing worth mentioning. Great job!
There are two issues though:
1. It's in low bit rate mp3. Send it in WAV.
2. The signal is kinda noisy (granted, the mp3 compression has made it a bit worse): It's a straight DI? There's nothing else going on that could induce noise? I can filter most of it out with a Low pass filter before reamp, and gate whatever remaining, but if there's anything you can do about it in your end, the better. If nothing, then don't worry about it.

Oops, forgot bandcamp converts to mp3 automatically. Going to bed in a few minutes but I'll take a look at the noise and find a different host to upload tomorrow.
 
Sounds good!

One general recording tip: hold your last chord for a stupid amount of time. Let Yax handle the fade-out in the mix. I gave Yax a full minute of sustain on my last note, knowing it's way more than he'll ever need, because I didn't want to cut him short.
 
Soundwise, no, because I overdid it and tried to mold it into something's it shouldn't be. It'll be more back to basics, Piece of Mind raw style when I redo it. As we don't have the synths it's easier than try to get a Somewhere in Time vibe, it's easier (actually, it's easier even disregarding the synths, as it's much less polished in general). So it'll probably be kinda raw, not that processed - Unlike my entry to the Metal core remix contest I'm on on FB.

Mosh did! I just cut it short at random, as it's just a rough playalong mix anyway.
 
Hmm, I think the first version is better, actually. Mainly because the guitar is synced to the drums much more precisely there.
 
I'll check the sync and increase the bass. I think the new drum mix is better though. It's more natural. Plus, it doesn't have that 120 ish hz snare resonance that's impossible to get rid of in a scooped, fat mix, without getting a tinny snare.
