2014 Tour Rumours

Well, they did a Maiden England tour barely scratching England. Maybe my standards are too outlandish.

If this turns out to be true, it could be very interesting indeed.

What would be really fantastic is if they threw in some Blaze stuff.

That would make the most sense. They could cover the Blaze era simply by adding 2-3 songs that were featured heavily on the first reunion tours. My guess is we'll get 2 songs from No Prayer (or just Bring Your Daughter) and 3 from FOTD (including ATSS and the title track). Throw in Sign of the Cross and Clansman (or Futureal) and they've "covered" the entire 90's catalog, thus ending their history tours and allowing them to look towards an end game strategy for the band. Also, this leaves the remaining 6-7 songs to deliver the greatest hits package we all expect.

EDIT: Based on the tours from the 90's (and being optimistic about some Blaze material), I wouldn't be surprised by a setlist that looks something like this:

Be Quick or Be Dead
From Here to Eternity
Wrathchild
Die With Your Boots On
Tailgunner
Sign of the Cross
Bring Your Daughter…To The Slaughter
2 Minutes to Midnight
The Trooper
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Holy Smoke OR Futureal
The Clansman
Number of the Beast
Fear of the Dark
Iron Maiden
Run to the Hills
------
Hallowed Be Thy Name
Sanctuary

Now it suddenly makes more sense why Maiden recently went back to the US. Because I esteem that a short nineties tour would exclusively be done on European festivals grounds only. North America didn't give Maiden a great response in the nineties. Why bother to please the ones who turned their back in the past, and lots of youngsters out there are probably less excited as well (compared to Europeans).

The ones who went to the bar or toilet during Afraid to Shoot Strangers, now can witness the song from an even greater distance: YouTube.

They'll probably get to see it on their televisions as well. Another Maiden tour, another DVD remember?

Anyway, Americans all want classics don't they? Play Classics!

I really think you guys underestimate the 'classic' status the nineties albums have. Tailgunner, Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter, Be Quick or be Dead, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Fear of the Dark, Sign of the Cross, Man on the Edge, Futureal, The Clansman... all classics known even to casual Maiden fans.

I don't consider 'Tailgunner', 'Be Quick or be Dead', 'Man on the Edge' or 'Futureal' to be "classics". 'Bring Your Daughter....To The Slaughter' was a number one single in the UK but other than that I don't think of it as a "classic" either. However, I don't want to be drawn into a debate on the definition of the word "classic".

They may not be "classic" in the real sense of the word but they are definitely songs that many people would like to see live. Especially because most of them have not been played at all in the 21st century.

Everybody I've ever mentioned the name "Iron Maiden" to who had at least a vague interest in hard rock music knew Bring Your Daughter. It's definitely a top-tier classic.

Other than that, all those songs you mentioned are at least as well-known as Moonchild, Seventh Son, The Clairvoyant, Powerslave and Revelations, all songs that got rave reception on Somewhere Back in Time. Besides, I still don't really get what the problem is. As I said, the 2010 tour had massive festival headlining, great reception, and hardly any 'classics' played. It didn't hurt the band a bit.

I'm not suggesting that Iron Maiden should only play "classics". I mentioned earlier in the thread that I thought the 2010 setlist was tremendous. However, I did read a lot of complaints from casual-at-best Iron Maiden fans after Sonisphere 2010 that they didn't play "classics" and that these people didn't enjoy the show as much as they expected as a result. Personally I thought that their complaints were just moaning as plenty of the songs on that setlist such as 'The Wicker Man' and 'Dance of Death' that are pretty well known, and if you're only a casual fan then you can easily look at the setlist before the show.

Those are the Play Classics! Nostalgia fans, who are a very loud, but very small minority. The internet can easily distort the perception of reality very easily. I was at Sonisphere 2010 in Knebworth. The reception was tremendous. Absolutely tremendous.

Except for Tailgunner, I agree.

Yay, more American generalization going on in here!

Anyways, I for one am hoping (if this 90's history tour "speculation" is even to be correct?) that they do AT LEAST a few US cities. I don't see them going on an extensive US tour like they did with Maiden England, but perhaps hit a few coastal and Midwest cities.

Then, your "hardcore" Iron Maiden fan will have to travel to see them (which could mean playing less but filled stadiums compared to playing more stadiums but at only half capacity or worse), and this possibly eliminates the "average" or "casual" fan's interest. But, this also means that this "hardcore" group won't care if they play only 1990's songs. Or so I would think.

As long as they come anywhere within a 300-350 mile radius of St. Louis, MO, I'll be good to go for seeing them. I don't see why they would eliminate the US completely; they have to understand that there are Iron Maiden fans that exist here that want to see those songs too.

(Then again, we did get completely robbed of the appropriate Final Frontier tour..... so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.)

Anyways, here's my take on a nice 1990's setlist.

1. Be Quick Or Be Dead
2. From Here To Eternity
3. Wrathchild
4. Wasting Love
5. Futureal
6. Die With Your Boots On
7. Afraid To Shoot Strangers
8. Sign of the Cross
9. Heaven Can Wait
10. The Number of the Beast
11. Lord of the Flies
12. The Clansman
13. Sanctuary
14. Fear of the Dark
15. Iron Maiden
ENCORE
16. Tailgunner
17. The Evil That Men Do
18. Hallowed Be Thy Name

Has a nice mixture of certain "classics", but a majority of which are rare 90's songs ( alot of which haven't been played since) and other oddballs.

It wasn't Play Classics! Nostalgia fans, it was casual-at-best fans who are big fans of Slipknot and Disturbed. :edmetal:
