I'll have to check it out :) For my vacation this year, we are staying at Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 5 which appears to be incredibly close to the museum

I think it's the British Museum that has some pieces in its collections that it's not allowed to put on public display because of indecency laws. They did exhibit a statue of Pan having sex with goat, though.

What kind of monkey?

I would say it looks like a baboon, but it's pretty big. There is also a painting that shows the offspring.

That's actually the same street where the museum administration is. It's one block away.

Yeah, we got a good deal there and it seems like a good spot to check out the museums, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, and Tiergarten within walking distance. Last time I went to the Neues Mesuem and looked inside the church there ... did not have much time.

.... and are we not really saying Muslims caused AIDS? (joking .. it is a joke :)... relax ... a joke)

Now I'm curious!

I'm still trying to figure out how to explain this in my tours.

The location is ideal. I walk past it every other day. But a church inside the Neues Museum, are you sure?

You know, I can get you into the Pergamon Museum (of which the Islamic one is part) for free.

Is there not an old church on Museum Island (not in the Neues Muesuem .. just on the Island)? Maybe I am mixing it up with something else. And, yes getting into the Pergamon Meseum would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the Dom:

I admit the island layout is quite confusing, and even locals tend to get all the buildings mixed up. I only get it right because I work there. :)

That is the one! At least my memory is not totally gone :) .. anyway, those are the two places I have been inside on Museum Island, then across the river I had dinner at a cafe (we ate outside), the building had what looked like bullet holes in the cement (or whatever the building it is made out of) ... and I recall the food being good. Then I drove back to Karlsbad, which took forever.

Rest assured it didn't only look like bullet holes, and most buildings in the area have those. ;) But I think I know which one you mean.

Both is correct. But if you keep a lookout, you'll be amazed at how many war-time bullet holes you'll still see everywhere.

I'll keep an eye out for them, on one hand, it seems odd that they are still there 68+ years after the war ended, but on the other hand, they really cause no issue to the buildings and there still seems to be a steady stream of stories of finding unexploded bombs which obviously are a big problem

Of course not. What, did you think a Red Army assault would bring down a building made in Germany? :P

and there still seems to be a steady stream of stories of finding unexploded bombs which obviously are a big problem

Yeah, that's the real problem. Half the city gets shut down once a year at least. Usually it's right during rush hour, you can't imagine how annoying that can be. They had to detonate one in downtown Munich not long ago, tens of thousands were evacuated.

They actually found some Japanese unexploded bombs in Oregon up to the late 1980s. They put them on balloons into the jetstream up to the end of the war, not that many made it, but some did. I can only imagine how many are still in Germany, the UK, and Japan which seemed to be the 3 most bombed countries during the war.

Isn't this kind of early?
How long is your break?
We actually got out two weeks earlier last year, but they redid it so that summer goes 2 weeks into August. Because of that I got an extended summer last year, but now it's a normal schedule. Really I think it would make the most sense to end school the week before Memorial day.

I heard of the balloons, but I didn't know of the bombs found in.

One statistic I read says there's still around 3000 in Berlin alone.
