RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

I mean, Bruce has been singing with foam plugs for decades at this point. It clearly isn't enough anymore. They are one of the biggest bands in the world but can't solve their severe timing issues? When I pay more than 100€ per ticket I expect that trivialities like the band being mostly on time and not all over the place to be sorted out.

Just came back from the Hannover show. It was kinda different this time. Both Dave and Adrian seemed like playing their role without much passion or enthusiasm, Dave in particular. In parts he seemed almost uninterested. Steve was also very professional as usual, but the show was definitely lacking something. It was my 57th Maiden show tonight, and I never saw them standardized and routine as last night. A bit disappointing. I went home already when Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son was played.
Maybe they had a Hanngover

It's stuffing your ears while singing. Multiple singers who don't use IEMs spoke about this. Sammy Hagar is one of them. They simply cannot have something in their ears. A friend of mine bought a wireless IEM system when we used to play covers and he went to the stage without trying it. Mind you, nowadays you have phone apps and you can adjust your IEM mix yourself. But he simply couldn't sing with them.

Also, part of Bruce's singing style is opening his mouth really wide and singing with power. Massive jaw movements can compromise the sound with IEMs. Stage and audience perception is another thing that is really different with IEMs, even with ambience microphones. I love IEMs and I use them most of the time when I play and even when I tech for a bigger band. But I can see why someone can have a problem with them, especially the singer.
But Bruce already uses earplugs, so he's already stuffing his ears. I completely get your points and we can chalk it up to a million different things that can be true, but ultimately it's Bruce saying "no, I don't want to learn to do it a different way."

And this is my point: they're one of the biggest touring bands in the world. They should be able to adapt for the good of the show. Just learn how to use IEMs. Yes, it's different. That's what techs are for. That's what rehearsals are for.

I play in a shitty cover band and my drummer has custom built IEMs. If he can do it, so can Bruce fucking Dickinson.

It's just pure boomer stubbornness.

better than paying 100 to see someone lipsync and play with backing tracks like alot of "live" acts these days...

I'm sure those exist but why are those the standards we are comparing Maiden to? Bands of all sizes and popularity can sort issues like that out. It's inexcusable for Maiden to be unable to deal with this for almost half a decade at this point.

Lip syncing is unforgiveable but i don't see the issue with backing tracks. It's not feasible for a band like nightwish to take an orchestra on the road with them for example.

IEMs are so common and widespread. I wouldn't call them unnatural.
I can't believe that if Bruce really wanted it and didn't give up after a brief trial, he wouldn't be able to sing with IEMs.

He could have a pair custom-made exactly to his specifications and needs. After a period of getting used to them, I think they'd actually feel better than his earbuds.
Who - or what - could convince him to give it a serious try?

I am very much anti backing tracks. Just hire a few more session musicians to augment the sound. When I go to a concert, I don’t expect it to sound like the album.
