RUN FOR YOUR LIVES 2026

The choruses in Aces High are fine. The first part of the verses and the first half of the chorus are in E minor. The same key that the Trooper and Hallowed are in. He's usually okay with that. The second half of the chorus is in G minor, three steps higher. He usually deals with that well too.

The issue is the second half of the verses ("jump in the cockpit"). That's in A minor, 5 half steps higher than the previous part of the verse. That's segment always sounds horrible live, even when he was younger.

He would sound better with a better drum sound. It's a criticism I had of Nicko in the last years as well, the "boomy" and full drum sound doesn't fit maiden that well
I sort of agree with this. Personally, I miss more of their wooden or metallic drum sound:

Also, during The Number of the Beast, just watching Simon, he seems a bit laid-back - or maybe tired - to me. I’m not feeling quite enough drive from him. Like others have said, maybe he’s playing to a click track to keep the tempo steady and closer to the album version.

Not dissing him at all - good luck to him, and he’s clearly here to stay - but I think I personally prefer Lazarus’s playing style. He may be more of a Nicko copy, but he’s got that vitality, and to me he feels more convincing behind the kit.

Overall though, the boys are in very good shape. Bruce sounds absolutely fired up vocally - maybe the solo tour really sharpened him up. And Infinite Dreams definitely didn’t seem like heavy-duty work for him.

"State ERT television said Sunday that more than 50,000 people turned up to hear the British band at the Olympic Stadium in the first of its Run For Your Lives World Tour 2026 shows."

Good attendance. No nosedive.

Yes, iron maiden'd drum sound was always nice, but since this Pooch guy came, the drum sound is muffled.

I won't believe that number until it's official. My uneducated guess is 40k

I like the drum sound but the cymbals can be too low in the mix. I also think the vocals are eq'd kind of strangely. Too boxy and not open enough.

Well, I must say I am officially very keen to see them in Sydney. No, it's not perfect, and I'm still not convinced by the screens (especially because of what they seem to have done to the ticket price), but god damn the performance level looks high and the setlist is not only a very good summary package for the three history tours, but includes a couple of songs that were unfairly omitted in their actual respective history tours. I take back some of what I said this time last year about the setlist - I had hoped too hard for Infinite Dreams that time, when I just needed some patience.
EW Sydney, go watch them in Brisbane, and no I don't live in Queensland.

It’s never been easier to get a good live sound with the use of triggers, either totally or a combination of triggers and the actual live sound. So whatever they’re doing is a conscious choice to have it sound like that. Same as the choice to keep using Kevin Shirley and having a stale mix on the albums.
