I reckon it's probably hard to step away from the limelight, the roar of the crowd, the relentless adoration, the social side of things. These conventions probably scratch a bit of an itch.

Maybe, but the question is whether there might have been other possibilities to achieve this. In connection with music and drumming. That would make more sense to me.

Some of the biggest stars in the world do these signing events, they’re BIG money. Nick is a massive extrovert, he will be missing the attention and energy he gets from playing. I expect he would have a good chat with the fans too, not just take their money and sign their shit and tell them to hop it.

I can see Nick chatting as much as he could at the signing table with a fan before moving onto the next. But the photo ops they get you in there and out so fast you barely have time to say "hi". Paying for signings and photos were never my thing but I would for Nicko (and Bruce since he's doing Cons now as well.)

And it's less stressful and demanding than having to play Where Eagles Dare or (and) The Trooper every other night.
At the end of the day he's a man in his retirement years, turning 74 in June, and who suffered an ictus three years ago.

Interesting Nicko's playing Atlanta the day after Maiden plays Charlotte. Maybe he makes a surprise appearance? Regardless this is going to be a busy weekend for me

It is much cheaper to travel to a convention alone (and maybe an assistant), than travel around with a drum kit, a band and a crew on a five week tour, especially when you have already spent around 50 years of your life traveling as well.
Nicko should do a stand up routine or some talk show, or something similar like Bruce does occasionally, the seminar thing. That would be perfect for both his personality and kreeping it partly about music/drums
I know that is the “normal” opinion among fans - that Nicko is so funny.
To be honest, I never found him so funny and sometimes he even annoyed me.
For example, he said in an interview that he had asked God to give him the strength not to cry. Thank you, such a tired old cliche.

Yah, I've always had the inkling that Nicko would be too much of a 'character' to be tolerable in real life. Delicious drummer, though.

Oh dear yes, Nicko's drum show / stand up comedy routine in Shepherd's Bush London, maybe around 2010? I can never recall the year because I have largely blocked it from memory. The comedy material was let's just say 'dated'. And perhaps not in tune with the local demographic mix outside in wider West London W12!!!
I also saw Nicko at a drum show in Wembley around 2005 and that was fine and funny, but that was him performing at someone else's show.
The problem (one of many) at the later Shepherd's Bush show was he was the headliner and Nicko seemed to have written the 'jokes' himself! Evidently he has forgotten time hadn't stopped still at 1983...
