18th Studio Album discussion

I hope not. Part of Maiden's appeal is that they (still) haven't stooped to this kind of malarkey (gross self-celebration), at least not directly: I think they have done enough already in this realm by authorising such things as the beer, the video game... better if they keep the artistic output clean from that.
I agree, but although they're story-telling band, they still made some songs that reflect on themselves - wasted years, blood brothers (indirectly became that), iron maiden (same as bb), coming home... Can't think of more now

I think when Maiden decide to retire they will simply put a statement saying something like "Iron Maiden have no further plans for the future". Leaving the door open for potential shows on special occasions.
I dont see that. They have pointed about recording and not touring but i think they deserve a tour or a gig like black sabbath

I think it would be really cool to have song about/that mentions Eddie - either as a part of their reflection on their legacy or a full song dedicated to his origin or story.
Idk if they would do it, but what if ''The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg'' is Eddie?
It would be odd methinks.
I don't think a pre-announced farewell tour is their thing. I think they'll just announce after the fact that they've played their final shows.
Bruce and Steve have said so before, but let's see. Some unexpected decisions lately.

Possible scenario.
I would like to think Steve would be intrigued to do a Maiden album with Simon. Regardless, I still think there will be a No. 18.
Good call, but at the same time I guess he'll miss Nicko more in the studio than live. Steve still likes challenges, so writing material for Maiden with Simon in mind is one, right.
5 years and 364 days elapsed between the release day of Book of Souls and of Senjustsu.
So far, we are a mere 4 years and 5 months since Senjustsu release day... -_-
Normal course so far, yep, SJ was delayed, but 2027 and 2028 (at the latest) are the deciders.
I feel If the Fear of the Dark album had massive success and radio airplay in the USA people would have said "sell out", much like Metallica.
Sell out with just one power ballad...

Steve has also explicitly said that he doesn't see Maiden doing a farewell tour, but rather just hang it up. Steve has also talked about retirement for 20 years now as something almost immediately impending, so I don't think we should attribute too much importance to band members thinking out loud in interviews.

Ill be disapointed if they dont tour for 2 or 3 years of farewell tour.
Disappointed, not sure (it would be bittersweet if you know, the surprise factor), I'd want it ofc, but it's how they feel. The stage would be curious.

An idea:

They could release a new album (in 2027 or early 2028) plus a support tour for 3 years and do ->

  • 1 year with 5-6 new songs and some other ''rare'' cuts (plus a couple of classics, ofc) - 2nd year with more songs from the whole career (more from Reunion and maybe the 90s) - 3rd year with the big classics... 2028-2030, like a fw tour.

This would require heavy changes in the set for two years, but with the new stage show it's easy and if they retire around 2030 (normal goal for old bands), that way they can play more and different songs that can't fit into one setlist. Combining the last 3 tours in one/3 years basically.

They are 69 70 years old. I dont see more than 5 years more.they have a great show even bruce wich is amazing becuase of the way he sings.

One more album maximum is all we are getting if any i think. A tour to support it and then maybe a final hits tour. If no new album likely a final hits tour only in 2028 onwards if everyone in the band is fit and well.

As discussed above the Maiden setlist is way more demanding then many of the bands/artists still going in their 70`s and beyond. Look at the stick Bruce gets on here for Aces High. He is a legend but how many songs from up to 50 years ago can he reasonable sing to a high standard in years to come.
