Maiden on the radio

The Longest Day also made it's glorious Long Friday return. I gotta admit though, Empire kind of got me. Haven't listened to it in God knows how long, and initially I was just kind of having it in the background but I ended up sat down on my couch, volume up, tapping along to the thing. It's a pretty good track.

Nah, listen to the ending of TGSOE. Whales!
This was one of the first long songs they played today btw and I still must reiterate: what the fuck was Holopainen thinking? Every time I thought it was finally over it actually kept going instead. Not to mention, yeah what was it with the random sound effects, they kept adding to the track length.

Lol, the soundscape portions are my favorite part. I get pretty lost in the world it creates, somewhere at the ending of time as the planet cycles back around with or without humanity. It’s a bit insane but I think it works pretty well.

I like how somehow it turned into a tradition that I'm now exclusively listening to Empire of the Clouds whenever it's on the radio on Good Friday. Kinda funny how the station basically just turns into Maiden power hour, they're by far the most represented band today, followed by Metallica at a pretty distant second.

That said, what I actually wanted to update this thread about was the other rock station in Finland being in full RFYL promo mode, with a series simply called Iron Maiden 50 in the afternoon slot where they go through a list of hand-picked "top 50" Maiden tunes. We're up to 35 and we've gotten some really cool and surprising picks beyond the obvious stuff. Holy Smoke was on the tail end for example, but beyond that, Tears of a Clown, Senjutsu, Stratego, Different World, Rainmaker, IESF, Infinite Dreams and Days of Future Past are some of the more out there picks included. Oh and From Here to Eternity was there too, for some reason.

Not a single staple so far besides Iron Maiden (since the top slots of the list will be full of 'em I imagine) and a surprising number of reunion era tracks for sure. Definitely a pleasant surprise, my expectations weren't exactly high for a gig promo listing to be anything but the laziest, safest choices and basically all 80s material other than FotD. Invaders got on the list for example and it sure as hell ain't the top 50 of anything.

I set my car radio to Planet Rock. They play Maiden a lot obviously. It was great the other day when my wife came home after borrowing my car and said ‘I’ve just been listening to Paschendale on the radio’.
