Your Maiden blasphemy

I find The Prophecy probably to be my most forgettable song from the first 5 Bruce albums. Clairvoyant isn't bad but it seems a bit bland to me. Only the Good Die Young is better than both of those 2, but still an underwhelming way to close the album.

The Prophecy is a great song. There are no weak moments on Seventh Son at all for me.

When it comes to the 80s material with Bruce, I'd the least awesome song is probably Deja-Vu. It's alright, certainly not bad, but seems very 'Maiden by numbers' to me, always has.

- The Number of the Beast is SOOOOO overrated
- The Trooper is BOOOOORING song
- Fear of the Dark is BOOOOOORING song
- Only the Good Die Young is one of the best songs
- Can I Play With Madness is great
- Out of the Silent Planet is one of the best songs from BNW
- Halowed be Thy Name is not in my top 15 songs at all
- A Matter of Life and Death have GREAT production
- Paschendale is BOOOORING
- I LOVE Gates of Tomorrow

Silent Planet is my 3rd favorite from BNW, and I also love Gates.

If H had done the solos on the Talisman and The Legacy...the result would have been much better.

You and I could not disagree more on this one. But that's okay, I mean this is the unpopular opinion thread. For me, Jan's solo on The Talisman is top five of all post-reunion solos.
"What he did on the Talisman was amazing. He took a nine minute song, which by Maiden standards would have two/three blazing solos on it, and played something completely different and unique that fit the song wonderfully. I wouldn't even call it a solo. It's a chance to catch our breath, before going back into that massive riff, and Bruce's relentless wailing. It fits musically and lyrically, perfectly."

As for other unpopular opinions.

I hate Moonchild

I don't think every Maiden song needs a solo. A perfect example being Speed of Light. It just seems tacked on. I think the song would sound/flow better without both of the solos. Another example being Afraid to Shoot Strangers. It would be a better song without it.

Well, I guess hate was a strong word. I shouldn't have said it like that. I think I phrased it strongly because of how strongly it is loved.

I grew up in a conservative Christian household. And although I've drifted a fair bit from that, the lyrics and the aggressive tone in Bruce's voices, is still a bit much for me.. too dark, too intense. I just get that uncomfortable feeling while listening to it. That's not the songs fault. It's my upbringing/beliefs that prevents me from enjoying the song as much as others do. As for musically, it's just below average Maiden in my opinion. I've never found the song to be that memorable. There isn't a chance I could hum it for you, and I just listened to the album yesterday.

While playing guitar myself and listening a lot for the solos doesn't exactly make me unbiased towards the question, I do think a lot of songs are fine without solos. When it comes to Maiden, however, I prefer long instrumental sections over short ones. "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" is, melodies aside, really an example of poor songwriting more than a song that doesn't need any solos. The fast part in the middle comes out of nowhere and doesn't fit with the other parts at all. They should have kept the whole song at half tempo.

I love that extreme change in atsss. The same tempo would have made the song drag IMO. Moonchild is 10/10. A perfect set starter for the maiden England tour.

Know what? I don't think Angel and the Gambler is either long enough, or has near enough choruses.

I'm waiting on the special, extended version of TAATG being released...
Seriously though I actually do enjoy that song!
