What does it mean to "put on" the light? Do you mean he "turned on" the light? As in: Roxanne! You don't have to put on the red light."

I have to admit I initially thought you analysed that "put on" statement a bit too much. But now, you've got me thinking (although we can safely assume he is not "putting on any red light" [img src=\"style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/wink.gif\" style=\"vertical-align:middle\" emoid=\";)\" border=\"0\" alt=\"wink.gif\" /] ).

Could this light be a gas light, for example, were by he is standing on a block of ice with a rope around his neck, and awaits the ice to melt?

Did he indeed mean to kill himself?
