Worldwide album sales

They're also great at American Football, a sport at which an American team is the "world" champions every year.
Oh, I like your cute, adorable "futbol" sport. It's fun to watch... all those action-packed 0-1 & 0-0 games... and from what I hear, if a "futbol" player does a good job, they can marry someone kinda hot. Maybe even an ex-Spice Girl!

And if an AMERICAN football player does a good job... Gisele.

Advantage: America!

USA! USA! USA!

BTW gents: I just checked the map, and it seems that Germany is unified. Just sayin'. Probably wise to stay on our good side.

USA! USA! USA!

The only people dumber than your average football players are your average American handegg players

99.99% of all NFL players went to college. (Granted, it might be a dopey college like the University of Alabama, but still.)

Anyway, where can I go online to read the PhD dissertation of David Beckham? That guy is a GENIUS.

Back on topic then. Last September someone on Steve Hoffmann forum posted this:

Pretty bad considering that Iron Maiden would be second worldwide among those bands.

Estimates world wide are:

Metallica 130 million
Iron Maiden 100 million
Black Sabbath 70 million
Ozzy Osbourne 55 million
Judas Priest 50 million
Dio 47 million
Megadeth 40 million
Pantera 40 million

Just estimates based on what I recollected on the internet.
Anyways Maiden is number 2 world wide and in the US not even top 5.
You didn't include Motley Crue who have sold 35 million in the US also.

Where would AcDc, GNR and Kiss be in worldwide and US lists @ManuelMaiden95 ?

AC/DC
worldwide 200 million
US 71 million

GNR
Worldwide 100 million
US 48 million

Kiss
Worldwide 75 million
US 21 million

Just to know the top 5 artists with more sales in the US are:

The Beatles 212 million
Elvis Presley 199 million
Rihanna 188 million
Eminem 163 million
Taylor Swift 159 million

Thus, estimated (in green the only two bands who do relatively better (ranked higher) worldwide than in US):

Worldwide:
01 AC/DC - 200 million
02 Metallica - 130 million
03 GNR - 100 million
03 Iron Maiden - 100 million
05 Kiss - 75 million
06 Black Sabbath - 70 million
07 Ozzy Osbourne - 55 million
08 Judas Priest - 50 million
09 Dio - 47 million
10 Megadeth - 40 million
11 Pantera - 40 million

USA:
01 AC/DC - 71 million
02 Metallica - 63 million
03 GNR - 48 million
04 Ozzy Osbourne - 27 million
05 Kiss - 21 million
06 Black Sabbath - 15 million
07 Megadeth - 9.5 million
07 Judas Priest - 9.5 million
09 Iron Maiden - 7 million
09 Pantera - 7 million
11 Dio - 3 million

First two bands are the same worldwide and in US. Then it changes.

Worldwide minus USA:

AC/DC: 129 million
Maiden: 93 million
Metallica: 67 million
Sabbath: 55 million
Kiss: 54 million
GNR: 53 million
Dio: 44 million
Judas Priest: 41.5 million
Pantera: 33 million
Megadeth: 30.5 million
Ozzy: 28 million

This seems wrong, maybe I'm misintpreting the data and the USA has already been deducted from the Worldwide figures.

Figures in bold seem way off:
Maiden surely couldn't be so far ahead of Metallica in the rest of the world, I'd be surprised if they are even ahead.
Dio surely couldn't have such a big figure worldwide and such a small US figure, even more so for Kiss. I would have thought the bulk for both those would be US

Maiden could very well be ahead of Metallica, if you take out North America. I'd bet that Maiden is more popular than them, at least in Europe. Lars Ulrich is a NA merchant.

I don't know, my gut feeling is Metallica seem to play bigger venues than Maiden in the rest of the world as well as USA, or if they both play similar sized venues Metallica have an easier time selling them out, which would suggest more album sales. Of course, I've no actual data for this it's just a feeling.

I also think Maiden's figure for sales in the states is way too small, which is also skewing the figure for Maiden in "worldwide minus usa". Only 7 million in total considering how long they've been going, how many tours they play and the size of the venues they play, it doesn't seem anywhere near big enough a figure.

True, but Metallica gigs are much rarer in Europe, or at least Germany, than in the US.
