Why did you have to choose Megadeth of all bands?

The way I view these bands are quite similar. They both had only 1 masterful album (Selling England by the Pound and Rust in Peace) and two very good albums (Foxtrot, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway and Countdown to Extinction, Peace Sells...but Who's Buying?) there are a couple of okay albums for both bands and they also have some weak albums. Megadeth's sound impresses me more, hence my vote.
 
I just don't care for Genesis. I tried to care for them, but I never ended up doing so.

I suppose I could agree with this. Maybe replace Lamb with A Trick of the Tail. I enjoy Genesis' best works more though, so they get my vote.
 
Watching either of these bands advance when BOC and GNR just went packing sucks.
 
I do not only dislike Dave's incredibly ignorant personality, I especially hate his shitty, strangled voice. Megadeth's music? I find it one big sea of mehness.
It stands far from a lot of bands I like.

Genesis however, I see them as soulmates or inspirations even, for some of my favourite bands (Rush, Maiden). Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins are some of the most gifted vocalist that I can think of.

There is mystery, there's magic, there's the unexpected. An original band. They walked the paths less traveled. The changes they have in songs, but also the fast and energetic, rhythmic stuff. It's the stuff I am into.

But riffs though.
 
I am not a Megadeth riff expert but to me their riffs sound dull compared to Iced Earth or most European metal bands.
Still, it could be that Mustaine's voice has obscured the riffs for me somewhat. I wonder how I would like an instrumental album of theirs.
