Which is your favourite city?

My favorite cities (the ones I've visited once or more times) are :

- Prague, because of its history, ambiance and beer.
- Vienna, because of its history, ambiance and sachertorte/coffee/hot chocolate.
- Imst, because of the wonderful alpine landscapes of Tyrol.
- Geneva, because of its history, ambiance and lake (+ great watches).
- Firenze and Pisa, because of their history, ambiance and pizzas (+ pastas).
- Marseille, because of its history, ambiance and bouillabaisse.

And some others that are less famous and that are related to my own family history.
Culture plus awesome food - difficult to beat

Chicago - Terrific place , good food, and I just love the atmosphere with the railway running through downtown.
Cincinnati - King's Island amusement park, and Reds baseball.
Myrtle Beach - Fond memories.

Beautiful city too! Visited it with school in 1995 and met a German Maiden fan at the Hardrock Café.
Yeah, very beautiful city with a lot of Roman and Etruscan history. <3 I visited it with my parents in 1989, great souvenirs I have from this place. :) This time, we also visited Pisa, Napoli, Pompei, Herculanum and the Vesuvius.

Imst but not Innsbruck? How interesting.
Imst is a lot more quiet city in Tyrol, with more typical Tyrolean architectures than in Innsbrück. In addition, there is a 4-star hotel in this city (Imst) in which it is very pleasant to stay with large suites, all for 180 euros a night and from which there is a breathtaking view of the Inn Valley and the mountains. :)

For the United States, Chicago is pretty tough to beat. It's got amazing food, bars, parks, museums, scenery, and it's an obvious stop for almost every concert tour regardless of the genre.

Also Galway is pure joy.

Chicago best city in the US? I’ve heard it’s pretty nice but I haven’t heard that before.
Plus it has a lasting reputation of a crime city, we still have a saying “We became Chicago” for anything related to gunshots, murders, you get it, where I grew up.

If I had to guess, I’d say San Francisco, Seattle, Portland or Houston.

Anyone who tries to ward off tourists from going to Chicago due to it being dangerous have more than likely never been to Chicago. The crime is predominantly reserved to the outskirts of the city and the downtown touristy areas are quite safe. Before I had the option to work from home, I'd work downtown for late shifts and I never had a problem.

Memphis, Tennessee. Birthplace of rock and roll. Better food and music than Chicago.

(Edit: And a higher murder rate. And massive racism since slave days including killing MLK. But, the best blues and BBQ in America.)
Better *specific type of food, that’s for sure. Memphis BBQ is certainly the best.

Stereotypes will be stereotypes. Crime in Chicago is no worse than most big cities, we’ve just become an easy punching bag.

Or if you go to any of the neighborhoods north/west of downtown, which is where a lot of the best Chicago culture resides.

Chicago actually seems like a pretty cool city, I hope I can make it there some day.

Too many to mention, but if I had to choose just one I will probably go with Lisbon, which has a charming mix of decadence, fantastic architecture, incredible light, quirky trams, friendly people, and wonderful food.

Another (continental) European cities I quite like is Bordeaux (fantastic architecture).

Here in the UK I really like Edinburgh (both old and new town), Bristol (the Clifton area is very beautiful and the whole city has a nice bohemian atmosphere) and London (I love the Thames covered in fog at night, with the double decker buses crossing the bridges). London and Edinburgh can get too crowded for my liking though.

At risk of derailing the entire thread: my allergy has gradually got worse, possibly as a result of being bitten by cat fleas, which I get asthma and flu like symptoms from.

Longhaired and light haired cats are the worst, but I can even get an allergic reaction around cat owners who have cat hair and dander on them. I don't want to make this worse by spending more time around cats

1. Stockholm - haven’t been there for 20 years, but it is the most beautiful city in the world I think. Great shops, and good people (one of my brothers live there as well), and I am always happy to be in Sweden whenever I can.
2. Bangkok - great people, great food, very hot, and very cheap for us Scandinavians to stay there. Many good memories from staying there.
3. Interlaken - was there this spring, a very, very beautiful little city in Switzerland. Also nice people there as well
