Where would you place Maiden?

Maiden are far and away my favorite band. For a long time, I used tell people that Led Zep was the best band in the world, but Maiden was my favorite. Made sense to me. :D
 
Others in my top 5-ish include Tool, The Mars Volta, Enslaved, Gentle Giant, System of a Down, Led Zeppelin and Talking Heads.

I'm a weird'un.
 
Definitely my favourite band.

In an attempt to go deeply objective, I'll say they aren't most important in history of metal, cause Purple Sabbath Zeppelin, and are in the same category with dozens of other artists if we're talking about general music.
Pink Floyd should come as #1 in history. They've influenced literally everything, from heavy metal to electronic music.

But if we add in integrity, longevity and relevance over decades, band attitude, relations with fans and public, and just standing your fucking ground for 39 years and counting...Iron Maiden might just be the best band ever ;)
 
Funny, I though about making a direct comparison right in the post.

I can't put it into words now, but I think the same in Priest vs Maiden. Priest might have prototyped it earlier, but Maiden just took it on next 3 levels alone.

And IMHO, Beatles had more influence on pop than Floyd had on rock genres.
 
One of my alll-times band of any genres of music. In terms of metal - best one in my opinion. I'm into since 1984!
 
They were never my favourite band.
But even though they can annoy me at times with quality control and continue to play the same long songs repeatedly live, they have a character which I like above everyone else. So they're no.1 in a sense.
 
Although, the Offspring - Americana was my first album and the one that got me to want to play guitar. My dad brought me home Powerslave one day outta the blue and they for sure became my favorite. My favorite band for sure, best ever? For me, probably so, I love guitar melodies/harmonies/solos and repetition. The vocals aren't growly, the music is atmospheric and most importantly for me, the most fun style of music to play on guitar.

Not only do I enjoy their tunes, but I have them to thank for my 18 years of guitar playing. I probably would have given up otherwise, and I love to play, its a big part of my life now.
 
Powerslave is an ageless effor! Metal masterpiece, without records like this one we wouldn't have had some milestones of the thrash genre just like "Master of Puppets" and "...and justice for all" 'tallica or "Rust in peace" Megadeth. Probably my all-times metal album! :)
