I think what he's getting at is that you talk about BNW and such like it's fact, when it's not. It seems a lot less...aggressive if you phrase things with saying, "With what I think are worse songs" etc. than "are worse songs".

I know mate! We all have our own truth don't we?

Once I have some time I'll try to base my opinion on actual facts (for a change) :)

Well - IMO- all the songs are not as good as they could have been. I feel that the songs were put together in a hurry. For the most part the drumming is quite basic (apart from the bass pedal).

I am afraid that each song has something that is really irritating and I just can't enjoy the album. I know other people think highly of this album.

I really think that for the most part the ideas are ok, but the arrangements and structures are just not so well thought out.

I really don't like a complete song in the album just bits and pieces like e.g the second half of TTLBLAH, most of The Fallen angel and most of the solos.

So I am sorry but I believe that BNW was a mediocre album

Actually this is my problem with DoD, execpt for Paschendale and the titletrack all the others seems to me very approximate and rough. On the contrary, BNW appears pretty solid to me.

To me brave new world was so important and is loved for being a very solid album. But I think subconsciously it's still revered heavily because of it's place in Maiden history. Ie the reunion.
In contrast, to me anyway, DOD really cemented it's place in my heart and sole as the album that convinced me they were back to stay: it is the reunion album that is most "maiden!" And relies more on it's content than it's position in the bands history. Again, my opinion. I think If DOD followed POM and preceded PS, (and had better production) it would be considered a classic in the vane of the albums during that stretch more so than the other 3 reunion works would have..

Forgive me but for me this is heresy. :D It is obvious that we cannot compare the new works with the holy 7, but the challenge does not stand up even a little. Are you sure that songs like The wildest dreams, No more lies, Age of Innocence, New Frontier could be considered pillars of Iron Maiden's discography?

That's contradictory given that I've seen loads calling Powerslave as Fillerslave and diminishing pearls such as Quest For Fire, Sun And Steel, Flash Of The Blade, The Duellists and Back In The Village even affirming they're disposable, which then, they seem to be no better than the songs mentioned on the previous post.

Gates Of Tomorrow and Age Of Innocence are really great songs.

No, but songs like Nomad, Dance of Death, Pachendale, Brighter Than A thousand Suns, The Pilgrim, Lord Of Light, Coming Home, The Talisman definitely can!

There's stinkers on every album, I think, except maybe SSOASS, but even SSOASS has 2 less-loved songs (and yes, SIT wankers, Deja Vu is not a good song, not anywhere close to it).

Not by me, I will never compare Age of innocence with any of them, just Flash of the blade is able to wipe out the entire DoD album, or most of it.

Agree on DoD, Paschendale and Brighter than a thousand suns (their best song since 1988).

Completely disagree, I found no stinkers on Killers, PoM, Powerslave, SiT and 7th. And Deja-Vu is indeed not a good song, it is a great song.

And that tank with Eddie and the binoculars!!!!! As the tank fired, the spotlight mock explosions in the crowd !! Man that was sick!! Any how... Something I'm noticing: the line between the reunion albums and the hayday is blurring for me.

I DO believe many of the reunion songs would be right at home on the classic albums. I used to feel the earlier albums were far superior..no mas.

That's great that you feel that way, but the overall forum rankings find that each of those albums have at least one song in the bottom 5th, except Powerslave.

I think ghat when they did 8 songs per album the chances to write a really horrible song were far less.Sure there are less good songs in the old albums as well but for me the real stinkers came in FOTD and onwards.

The only songs by maiden that really "stink" to me are a couple of blaze era tunes and " bring yo girl", which I never even viewed as a song. I have completely come around on the blaze era in the past couple years. In fact I used to despise blaze but have acquired a taste for that era. 'Judgement day' is flirting with my top 20 maiden songs.

I would probably have liked judgement of heaven a bit more if I could hear the rhythm guitar just a little bit

The Final Frontier 8.5/10
A Matter of Life and Death 8/10
Dance of Death 8/10
(i believe all these albums are good as fuck)

Brave New World 5/10
(it bores the piss out of me)
yea i know!!

I swear to god it seems people put down songs on DOD because they feel it's popular opinion or something! I don't get it. The more I listen the more I love that album.
I've been a lifelong fan of maiden. When the reunio/bnw popped I was stoked. When DOD dropped, maiden was maiden again. And the next two albums continued the as* kicking. Opinions. I know. But wow I don't hear bad songs at all on DOD .i hear pure Maiden. Easily comparable to the 80's stuff. Amolad as well. As good and at times better than the old....

Agreed. Dance is my favorite reunion album, and possibly in my top 3 Maiden overall.
