Pretty much my thought on Stygian too. When it comes to big epics, I like drama and excitement. Stygian has neither of those for me.

?

Stygian is a chilling climax to NOTSR, the start of the chorus always fills me full of adrenaline, the vocals are sublime, the lyrics captivating, and the piano ending is beautiful. It truly paints a wonderful picture.

November Rain, as I've said before, is acceptable. But a better example of an epic from GnR exists in Coma.

November Rain....:help2:

Stargazer is a kick ass hard rock song but it doesn't connect with me on an emotional level the way November Rain does...So, Guns it is...

Holy crap is that video horribly done. Dozens of errors in the instrumental section. Things like notating huge portions of The Climax as "12/8", when it's not 12/8 at all. It's an alternation of 5/8 then 7/8. Just because that adds up to 12 doesn't make it 12/8.

Whoever made that video needs to be smacked in the head with one of those giant 19th-century metronomes.

Another thing I noticed was that the video gives time signatures like 5/8 and 9/8 etc for short breaks (much shorter than one bar, one can't even count 9 lousy sixteenth notes in some of those) squeezed in between passages that are obviously correctly described as 4/4 and 6/4. To me, who lacks training in music notation, this sounds far-fetched. Does it make sense to you?

Oh, and Stargazer.

November Rain is a ballad with a lengthy finish with good solos. It does not feel like an epic to me.

Um, Stargazer. SMX, your man card is in jeopardy of revocation. :p

Just kidding, of course. Look, the solos on November Rain are great. But it has outkicked its coverage in this tournament.

Yes, something like this. Not so much an emotional connection in my case, but I certainly enjoy NR a lot more. It's a piece of theatre with a nice change of moods, but continuity too, and a great build up to the end. And it was my pick. :innocent:

Stargazer wins Final 1 of War Of Epics!

@Cornfed Hick is the Warlord of Epics! He had the most points in the user competition, which was kinda expected considering he had freakin' Stargazer :p
@RTC is the Lieutenant of Epics! He was 2nd placed in the user competition.

Here are the final rankings.

Now the prizes. I might have overhyped them, but meh, it's just a game anyway :p

1st prize: "veto vote". Basically, you can give a song a -1 vote. You get 3 veto votes than you can use up until Top 10 (one per round). It only applies to the Survivors I host, and you can only use them in one Survivor.
2nd prize: "pick a Survivor for Night Prowler to host". Basically, you pick a band and I host a Survivor with it :p However, I won't host whatever you pick. It has to be something reasonable, so no pop crap like Britney Spears or Justin Bieber, or a huge discography with 100 albums like Zappa or Buckethead. I'm willing to host something I don't usually listen to if it's interesting enough, just be reasonable and pick something you actually like too and something that's gonna have more than 2 voters :)

Now, if you don't want the prizes, you can pass them to the person below you in the rankings and that person can pass it forward etc. If Cornfed gives up his, RTC has to pick between two prizes and pass the other one etc. Just decide this publicly :)

Now it's time for Top 8 of this part of the game to meet Top 8 Iron Maiden epics according to LooseCannon's ratings spreadsheet.
