Tonight: Men's biathlon, 4*7,5 km relay! The event will be a showdown between the usual suspects; Germany, Russia, France, Norway.
Norway will be screaming for vengeance tonight, after the disappointing relay in Turin 4 years ago - where we were even beaten by Sweden, in a sport where we've been better than them since Adam and Eve were chased out of the garden. So far in the Vancouver games, it's been ups and downs for the Norwegian biathlon team. Maybe the biggest disappointment is Ole Einar Bjørndalen's abysmal shooting. His skiing has been good (among the best, as usual), but his shooting has been well below average, except for on the 20 km where he finished second.
The Norwegian team will consist of veteran Hallvard Hanevold (a rock steady shoot, but his age has taken its toll on his speed), newcomer Tarjei Bøe who has never been part of the team in a major tournament, and the two medalists from the 20 km. To me, the biggest uncertainty is whether Bjørndalen has managed to use his lack of success this far as a motivational factor, instead of letting it demotivate him. When he's at his best, no one can match him, but the margins are small in biathlon ...
I just hope the Norwegian team won't do as they did on the 15 km mass start, where they obviously were shooting moose rather than the targets.
I'm also looking very much forward to the ice hockey semi-final between Finland and USA. The other semi-final, between Canada and Slovakia, is too late for me.
