USA Politics

When I pointed out that the correct way to spell CCP is CPC he acknowledged it and continued to spell it CCP. It's one thing to do it out of ignorance, but when you know, you know. It's a tiny "unimportant" little detail, but it shows something.
Reread the messages and it will be clear that your stated point of view here is cherry-picked, and I already answered your questions fully and explained my continued use of “CCP”. I will not waste the time looking up the link for you.

I don’t need that. I know what I need to know. Feel free to use CCP for CPC, AUS for USA, UE for EU and feel free to justify it to yourself and others as the logical and right thing to do.

On one hand, I am actually grateful for No 5 as at least someone willing to disrupt the progleft circlejerk, even if by such dubious means.

On the other hand, as a result this thread really is cringe comedy at its finest. I find it bloody hilarious that being gone for 6 months and returning, I find this thread in exactly the same state as before, with 5 not only not being banned, but people actually still engaging in a conversation with him and getting frustrated as a result.
It's not quite the same. We regularly call out 5 on his bullshit and directly confront him on his bad faith and disingenuous behavior. This usually results in him beig quiet for a few weeks, only to return and spew the same old already discredited lies and Russian propaganda as if we haven't already addressed all that.

We're also much more willig to directly call out his pathetic attemps at gaslighting others.

Who could've seen that a republican president would once again fuck up the economy? Certainly not the millions of people who were warning everyone everyday of these exact things happening. But hey, at least the libs are mad that the Switch 2 is so expensive, in part thanks to the tariffs. The art of the deal, my friends.

A neck-and-neck race for the Wisconsin Supreme Court ended up as a 10-point victor for the more liberal candidate, even with Trump and Musk throwing their weight behind the conservative candidate. Florida's races for the vacated congressional seats in Trump +30 districts ended up as Republican <+15 wins.

Hell, the GOP was nervous enough they pulled Elise Stefanik's nomination for UN Ambassador. Must not have liked what they were seeing in upstate NY's internal polling.

You've got four GOP senators joining the full Democrat caucus to pass a bill to the House checking tariffs against Canada. Iowa's Chuck Grassley ( holding a very high-ranking position for the GOP) has jointly introduced legislation to fully check the executive's ability to implement tariffs. They see the writing on the wall now.

"TO THE MANY INVESTORS COMING INTO THE UNITED STATES AND INVESTING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY, MY POLICIES WILL NEVER CHANGE. THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GET RICH, RICHER THAN EVER BEFORE!!!"

He is insane.

According to Yanis Varoufakis there's a method behind the madness, 4:15

"Trump's economic team like people like Stephen Miran, the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers or Scott Bessent the US Treasury secretary people who know their stuff. I have very strong disagreements with them we're political opponents but they should not be underestimated they're quite smart thinkers they see tariffs as an instrument they would like to see the tariffs go away at some point it is an
instrument by which to make everyone panic and then force them to negotiations with one objective in mind to get the holders of US Dollars like Japan has 1.2 trillion dollar in savings; Europe has 800 billion and so on, China has four trillion...
To get them to sell them to get rid of them in order to devalue the dollar without buying any other currency so that the American dollar maintains its hegemony so should they buy very long dated American debt or even Crypto anything but Yuan (or Yen)."

He also argues that the 10% carrot to UK is in order them not returning to EU something that Starmer allegedly has in mind.

The keyword here isn't method, but madness. There is almost always some kind of method behind every act committed throughout history. It doesn't make it rational and it certainly isn't a marker for lucidity.

... And besides, Scott Bessent isn't one of the guys pushing big, all-encompassing tariffs. Lutnick and Navarro are.

Could be. I’m not too familiar. On the surface it seems like a very bold, risky & irrational bet.

I hear all kinds of doom predictions but we need to see how it would play out. Historically with great disruptions come great opportunities too. I’m sure some countries will benefit in the end, remaining to see which.

You've got China, Japan and South Korea agreeing to cooperation against the United States's tariff push. Knowing those countries respective histories with each other, that's massive. The first Trump administration pushed tariffs against China and blew a gigantic hole in the US's agricultural sector. All China had to do was import their crops (namely soybeans, the US's #1 agricultural export) from other markets such as Brazil. They still get their product, and American farmers lose clientele. US taxpayer as a whole was on the hook for it as farmers received a massive bailout. (Something that's already been put on the table for them again in this second administration.) Canada is another country that has already announced they're diversifying their trade and looking elsewhere besides the US.

I fail to see the supposed hidden genius of this when the implementation was done so haphazardly that tariffs were announced on uninhabited islands and islands where the only population is a US military base. The tariff rate calculation was performed by AI. There's no grand strategy.

Yeah, this could work in favour of the US if there were continuity, say a few administrations one after the other support and build on that but it seems to me impossible that this will continue after Trump. It looks like gambling than anything else.

Because it's hideously dumb policy. Please explain how it would work in the US's favor.
