I don't think the American electorate cared specifically about Ukraine. I am fully aware that the only foreign policy area capable of engaging a substantial amount of American voters is Israel. (Ironically, Trump probably got a fair share of voters from these Rust Belt Muslims who thought the Biden administration was too soft on Bibi, and they are now shocked that Trump is worse ...).Your mistake is thinking that enough people in this country actually cared about Ukraine. I can tell you there’s plenty of people who don’t give a shit and see it as a bottomless hole we’re sinking money into that could go to the American people.
I don’t see it this way, especially because if we do stop supporting Ukraine that money won’t actually go to those who need it — but practically anyone who voted for Trump wasn’t doing it because they cared about the threat Russia posed. Matter of fact, they probably believed that Putin was an overhated fella.
My point was more that Trump has been accused of being close with Russia since before he was elected in 2016, something his fans have written off as conspiracy theories, but he is proving every day now that he is more interested in dealing with Putin than with actual allies of the US.
