USA Politics

Again, to me it really comes down to federalism and in a country like the US, I think that is incredibly important to maintain (and I would say increase) the power of the states versus the federal government except in clear national issues (like defense)

I am very curious to see what happens with states rights in the next 4 years with a Republican controlled government.

I don't either, although he mentioned that abortion should be up to the states on 60 Minutes.

I'm more curious if Republicans are actually for states rights. This is something they tout regularly when campaigning and when opposing Democrat legislation. What will happen now that they can put more power in the states? Trump is not really a major obstacle here.

Marijuana legalization is the first thing I can think of that will be relevant. Will they attempt tighter federal restrictions that undermine the states which legalized it this year?

he said that if Roe v Wade was overturned .. it would go to the states .. which is correct .. previous law would apply ... which is that states can choose. Even with a really conservative court, I do not see it going overturned .. modified maybe, overturned no. SCOTUS Judges do not like overturning precedent and rarely do.

Both parties are for states rights when it is something they want .. gay marriage came from states, welfare reform in the 1990s were based on what states did, marijuana for sure, education initiatives, and on and on. It is a good thing to have 50 entities being able to do what the Feds cannot do .. innovate .. some of it is good, some is shit, but the good outweighs the bad. IMO, it is up to the Feds to call out states when they do things that trample rights ... like the old Jim Crow laws, etc

And was reportedly offered any position in Donald's cabinet. Let that one sit for awhile.

Hardly. He's VERY smart. He's just a bit of a kook.
I would say he is a genius neurologist, but he is also very specialized. His political skills aren't great and he definitely doesn't understand a lot of other scientific stuff. He's not a moron. He's just...wrong on a huge list of subjects.

That's pretty dismissive, and wrong. He got into Yale, which puts him in the top 1-2% of smart people in the nation to begin with. This is before he became a neurologist. Then, to become a neurologist of any sort, one would need to be pretty fucking smart. To become the head of pediatric neurology at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, one of the top medical schools in the world, you have to be REALLY fucking smart.

Ironically, the purpose of the EC is to keep people like Donald from being president anyway.
Whatever system is put in place, it should not be drawn up to prevent anyone from being president if that person wants to be. Only the electorate can dictate who should and shouldn't be president. This isnot a pro-Trump or anti-Clinton statement, just pro democracy and freedom of expression.

I think you can be smart about certain things and be a fucking moron at other things.

Words smart, intelligent etc. are sometimes inconclusive whether you mean actual ability to process things or overall level of knowledge and capability, and also what field you mean. For example, if you saw me speaking or writing you'd go "He's a smart dude" but if you saw me trying to figure out a problem regarding a geometrical shape you'd say "You're a fucking dumbass".

I have at least one (non-famous) friend who is very serious about moving here since the Trump victory. Luckily, she is in a Class B in demand field (medical technologist), so it looks like she may be able to get papers within a year.
