Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

I have a pretty good idea...you'd have to find financial backing, and then begin the process of overcoming over a century of ingrained party divisions and areas, as well as the fact that the Democrats and the Republicans have set up massive blocks on things like how hard it is to get on the ballot in various states.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

That's a great idea LC.... I'm sure no one has thought of that before.....  ;)

Ever consider dual citizenship?

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Sorry, I am interested in a Prime Ministerial post, not as a Speaker for a new budding US party...

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Ok, you want to know what I think is funny about our two parties?  Last presidential election, when Kerry lost pretty badly, the news channels were all saying that the Democrats had lost touch with the country, and that we may be seeing the end of the Democratic party.  However, just two short years later, the Democrats took a pretty good chunk of the Republican seats in the mid-term election.  And, even with all the Barak vs. Hilary stuff going on, most think its now the Republican party that has lost touch with the nation.  A third party would be great, but what you are seeing is the fact that a large portion of the nation is not 'party' affiliated, and whenever one of the 'Big Two' moves towards the middle, they gain that support (or away from the middle and they lose it).

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Breaking news!

John Edwards has endorsed Barack Obama!

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

I just read that too.  Sounds very promising.  You think that leads to any more speculation about who Obama uses as a running mate?

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

He wants to run as VP again... he's the best bet too and he knows it, damn southern democrat :D

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Edwards has said again and again that he has no interest in being Vice President.  He's a politician, so those promises are written on sand...however, given his wife's health issues, I just can't see it.

I think Obama will have to think long and hard before choosing a vice-presidential candidate, but I can't see it being another senator.  I can see it being a southern governor, however, or someone like Gen. Wesley Clark.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Southern Dems are the best way of getting Republican votes and conservative voters on the Dem ticket.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

So don't be surprised if it's Tim Kaine on the ticket for VP.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

That's a smart call, actually.  Though he hasn't been a governor all that long, if I recall correctly.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

You are correct but he is ambitious and thought of highly within the Democratic Party.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Gov. Brad Henry is another option, many people believe he has presidential ambitions.  Mike Beebe is slightly possible, though he did endorse Clinton (no surprise, since he is from Arkansas).

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida is looking like a good VP candidate for the Republican ticket. He is thought of well in Florida.

I'd like to see Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia throw his hat in for nomination in a future election. He's the man!

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Yeah, but he's only got 2 years in?  Or is it 4?  I can't remember.  And while he might be the man, he's not Obama, who has been the protegé of the Democratic Party for quite some time now.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

He has 2 years in as of now, but has been Governor, the Secretary of the Navy and is a highly respected Vietnam vet. He has Republican written all over him but is a Democrat.

Re: USA Elections: Candidates Comparison

Experience is the Clinton argument. Statistics seem also less important these days, in American politics.

Absolutely no great presidents of the United States have ever served as Governor, as a Secretary of the Navy, and has been a respected war veteran.  That could never get your face on Mount Rushmore.
