Still Life is my favourite here. Never been a fan of Janick's live rendition of the Hallowed solo, and it's close between the last two. Neither of them goes beyond "good" in my book. The Longest Day is a very standard solo, not close to Davey's best work, and the Heaven Can Wait solo is quite messy. I think both Dave and H deliver their least good solos of the album on that song. The Longest Day wins.

Still Life. Sounds great and stands alone beautifully.
Tough choice between Longest Day and Heaven Can NWait. Longest Day works best out of context, but Heaven Can Wait has some lovely guitar work in it. Going for Heaven can Wait.
Hallowed isn't saying much to me.

I love the Heaven solo, it has a distinctive sound and atmosphere. The second choice was tougher but I went with Still Life.

There's this unusual laid back feeling in the Still Life solo. It's like Adrian is really playing (it even sounds a bit like improvising) with the opportunities he has. Lots of ease is shining from this solo. Like you can feel that he can do many different things. He starts with a swinging first quarter with lots of feel.
The second quarter has a short start, a mini pause, followed by a fast run. In the third quarter he bends nicely and high, goes fast again and then he descends beautifully to the end.

I actually prefer Dave's Still Life solo. Both are great though.

Heaven Can Wait. I wasn't really feeling it for the other solo's so I just voted for one solo this round. One of the weakest rounds for me thus far.

Yeah, none of these four are among what I would consider my top favorite solos. I'd say The Longest Day would be my favorite among these, so that's getting my lone vote.

Inferior group to the previous.
Longest Day has more interesting harmony underneath, Heaven has more interesting rhythm parts, Hallowed is blistering but has very little melody, so I guess Still Life

It's tough, but I choose HCW and Hallowed. I love all the Somewhere in Time solos, they are so special... And as for Hallowed - this solo is so powerful. Janick did a great job adopting this one to his style of playing. On one hand it's similar to the original solo, and on the other it's completely different. I probably like it more than Adrian's studio take. I rejected The Longest Day, because it relies on the song's melody too much (if I HAD to nitpick). I know - it's not a bad thing at all, but if here we're trying to compare them out of the context... Anyway it's great too, of course, but I have to choose only two. I like Still Life as well, but the ones I chose are more 'spectacular', let's say.

What the hell - I'm the first one to vote for Janick's Hallowed :P

This time it was a rather tough decision - I knew I’d vote for Dave’s beautiful solo on The Longest Day right from the start (the whole instrumental section there is the second peak of the album, right after BTATS, IMHO), but then choosing between H’s distinctive Heaven solo and Janick’s fiery Hallowed one was much tougher. In the end I went with Hallowed, because it’s closer to my favourite style, but I’m not sure my vote would be the same tomorrow.

Not too wild about Still Life, to be honest.
