Shit, too late to vote for WL. These current two are amazing, but the beginig of ATG solo has certain "fantasy" element in it that I adore. Voted for that and it seems like a sure winner for this round.

Alexander is one of the most uninspired solos Dave has ever done. Just random noodling, no ideas to bind it together. Sea of Madness is an exceptionally well planned solo that gets my vote any day of the week.

Uuhhh.......NO. Your opinion of course but wrong lol. And I'm an Adrian worshipper.

Mine too. My favourite Maiden solo. The difference in votes with Dave's Alexander is ridiculous.

The Sea of Madness solo touches me deeply. It is emotional and very melancholic. I am a sensitive dude, and this is a sensitive song and solo, so that certainly plays a part. It starts a bit in the way Rime's does, but there are quicker coverings of the guitar neck, resulting in mind-blowing patterns. I am not an expert when it comes to guitar technique, but I think there's some shredding going on, but it's done very melodically. The speed of these notes don't put me off. On the contrary: they race in brilliant melody. The end is just magic, the best end of all Maiden solos. What a feel, both for the playing but also for choosing that note.

Adrian's solo is compact and contains some of his best ascending/descending licks. It's an element he often uses in his solos but here they shine really well. Dave's solo contains a small bit of noodling in the middle, after the very well chosen opening notes, but this acts as a build up for the screaming bends that put an end to his solo in a most majestic way. Again, I see SoM as a catchy kind of solo: makes you move and feels energetic. AtG is slower and more dynamic, and features both the lowest and the highest points of the two solos.

Result of Quarter Final 1: Adrian Smith's Sea of Madness solo (040) is eliminated. 045 advances to the Semi Finals.

Quarter Final 2:

Definitely CSIT.

I previously said this during the battle in the previous round from which FOTD came from:
I'm fairly certain that the winner of this battle will get slaughtered in the next round, no matter the opponent.
Well I stand by my remarks, and expect CSIT to run away with it here.

You have to give Dave credit here for playing lots of notes, very fast; but this lead still having a comprehensible melody. It's something most widdlers & shedders don't quite manage. But CSiT! Boy oh boy, that tone is monstrous! I'm trying to look past that & listen to what Adrian's actually playing... it's difficult.
