I totally agree with you The Flash, but quite a few people refer to it as Adrian's first solo in AtG, so I thought it at least worth clarifying what I meant.

I count what you call an interlude as a solo. It has enough variation for that (in fact: not a single segment is the same as another). But I guess I will agree with the "3 solos -> 1 solo"-solo.

Janick Gers – part 3 (part 1 -> here; part 2 -> here )

Before I finish off with the remaining Janick Gers solos, I wanted to give a big nod of agreement to Maturin's and Cried's mention of his solo in Brave New World and Mckindog's take on From Here to Eternity. Both solos would be in my 15-20 area.

Alright, here goes with the final five:

05. Ghost of the Navigator
Sharp and moving tones, piercing straight through the heart.

04. The Pilgrim
Great Eastern vibe and build-up.

03. Como Estais Amigos
If we don't count some of his shorter solos, then this could this be the one with the least amount of notes. But what notes. This is touch of the highest order. :notworthy:

02. The Clansman
I'm surprised no one mentioned this extraordinary melodic work. A wonderful combination of melody and passion. And it has a very clean finish, by the way.

01. The Unbeliever
Very emotional and aggressive in one of Maiden's best instrumental sections. Strangely enough, it hardly got mentioned in this thread (only Flash made note of it). While it's not even my favourite part (I prefer the aggressive bending and vibrato or whatever he does to make those sounds!), the ending is pretty cool when he goes higher and higher. Check that last note still going on for a while when Dave has picked it up.

Next guitar player will probably be Adrian Smith.

So, just to bring Forostar's top 10 together:

10. The Legacy
09. Blood on the World's Hands
08. The Fugitive
07. Lord of the Flies
06. Fear of the Dark

05. Ghost of the Navigator
04. The Pilgrim
03. Como Estais Amigos
02. The Clansman
01. The Unbeliever

I gotta love your love of the 90's! :)

When I look at your part 2, Forostar, I can't help but wonder why there wasn't room for Janick's Fugitive lead in my own top 10; it really is very good. It & The Legacy very narrowly missed out. Your top three is a real surprise though. I'm going to have to have a look at where those three sat in my own assessment; I don't recall, which suggests I didn't rate them highly. Must have a re-listen...

Yes sir! Jan himself might not like it but I think he was at his best with the guitar solo in the nineties.
Nice to focus on that interesting decade, but it won't last very long when we turn to Mr. Adrian Smith. Not much nineties in his list. ;-P BTW, cheers for the feedback and that list, Cried. :)

No wonder. The 90s were the only time when Janick could shine as a guitarist. :p
You have a point. He wasn't around in Maiden in the 80's, and especially Adrian came with a shitload of awesome solos, especially on the latest album. Still, I believe that Janick himself did better in the nineties than later on (though I still have 3 2000's solos in my top 10) and I don't think that has much to do with the other guys.

"The 90s were the only time when Janick could shine as a guitarist."
In what sense then? (--if not the reason Forostar sights.) I'm not sure I follow...

I totally agree. In the 90s he used to do more solos in which he tried to play slower and with more melody. In the post-reunion era his solos are just an awful lot of shredding, with the exception of Blood Brothers and The Legacy. Which is why they both appear on so many best-of-Jan lists.

Edit: Because of the same reasons that Foro noted, Cried.

Forostar: "but it won't last very long when we turn to Mr. Adrian Smith. Not much nineties in his list."
CriedWhenBrucieLeft: "Or, I think, much going on in the post-2000 era, either (--in respect to H)!"
