Themes for new Maiden album

That's true, but they also suffer from more filler. TIO is awesome up to Through The Looking Glass and is kind of a let down after that. DWOT is way too overshadowed by the title track. PL is a bit more balanced in that regard. The epics don't take away from the shorter songs, but rather compliment them. Same with Odyssey.

Absolutely. The middle portions of TiO and DWOT are laden with some pretty average material, but the bookends are amazing. It's clear that they've learned how to hone their craft with age, but they've made some odd choices as of late.

I notice a lot of proggers tend to get tired of the complex stuff after awhile. Even Dream Theater had their moments of going for a more commercial edge. SX seems to be in a place where they just want to rock, which is fine, but hopefully they'll balance it out more with the next album. I'd like to think that playing Odyssey and DWOT live last year has reminded them just how great that material is.

I get that, but they've been playing Odyssey for a few tours now. I've seen it three times over the last 7 years or so. I've got no problem with them making a more straightforward record, I actually liked when DT did it (a la Falling Into Infinity or, to some, Train of Thought). I just hope they discover that they can still write quality songs in a straightforward manner with lyrics that aren't along the lines of "We fight! We rule! We're bastards! Let's go!"

Well great, the one tour I do catch is the one where they don't play Odyssey.

I'm actually not slagging DT there, I quite like those albums. I was just saying that it seems natural for prog bands to ditch the prog sound every now and again, and in a lot of cases, ditch it completely and move on to something else. I think SX could pull it off better than what we heard in Iconoclast, but you seem to agree with me there.

Yeah, you sure missed the boat on that one. It's great live.

I like those DT albums, too. TOT is my favorite DT album. Anyway, we've come to a fairly agreeable standpoint.

Getting back on topic, I'd be alright with Maiden streamlining their sound on the next album as long as it does not affect the lyrics. Harris and H seem pretty opposed to this, though. I'd love to hear a blistering album of 4-5 minute songs with maybe one or two epics.

I'm quite looking forward to the new album, really. I think there needs to be an epic focussing on something like the Batle of Hastings, or how their career is slowly ending due to their ages

Also, I reckon Bruce should collaborate with his son, Austin for a song or to. Or maybe a Maiden/Rise to Remain crossover?

Patrick, buddy...

Sorry, but the idea of Bruce singing about being a sad old man does not appeal to me. And if I hear some metalcore screaming on a Maiden album, I will subsequently burn that album.

Yeah, I definitely couldn't see them writing a whole album about them aging.... I had said that earlier but that was really a joke . :D

Oh yea, Maiden Metalcore. That's a great idea. Mix it in with some Crabcore and a Skrillex remix and we're all set.

I know you guys aren't serious. You expected them to rap before dubstep? I thought Linkin Pork used that up the second song they did.

Ok here's my imagination at play here album will have 9 songs
1 song will be about England's war of the roses particularly during Edward III reign as king.
1 song about another sea voyage epic ei: rime of the ancient mariner, talisman, ghost of the navigator(this time the sea voyage song will be told through a pirate's point of view out at sea in the carribean looking for gold&spices)
1 song about religion because Maiden is good at that
1 song about the legends of the Brazilian Amazonian women warriors(according to the Spanish&Portuguese settlers)
1 song about the Wright brothers(completely written by Bruce he loves fencing and wrote 2 songs on powerslave about it and this is his time about writing a song about the fathers of aviation) even a few consider a French guy I forgot his name was having the first successful airplane
1 song dedicated to Clive in a remember tomorrow type of tone
1 15 minute song about the book of 5 rings written by Miyamoto Musashi a legendary Japanese swordsman (think of it as Japan's version of the art of war book)
1 song which will be an instrumental
and finally 1 song about getting better with age
Call the album the book of five rings after the song with the same title. There ya go Iron Maiden's new album:shred:
