Themes for new Maiden album

Holy shit. That movie came out in 86? Christ. That's a year BEFORE I graduated high school! THAT WAS 27 YEARS AGO? No wonder they post pictures of Clint's face next to Eddie's

An album dedicated to promoting Maiden-related products and merchandise, from Trooper beer and Holy Smokes cigarettes to Bruce's lighter than air drones.

An album that defends their supporting bands about the boo's they've got?

"Oh how dare you boo Lauren
Damn it she's Steve's daughter
Seeing how these fans have fallen
We better bring them to the slaughter."

Now really, I'd really like another concept album. Just without any silly interludes. It could be an original story or an adaptation of something.

This is not something I am a fan of but we might get another "I love my country"-song such as These Colours Don't Run and Coming Home.

I would also love to hear another true concept album. Since they've just done an album themed around space (or more appropriately, exploration in general), I sincerely hope the next album has nothing to do with technology or the future. If there's one thing I never need to hear again from any metal band, it's an album about computers taking over our lives, blah blah blah, apocalypse, blah blah blah GROWL.

(Sorry, I'm still left with some Iconoclast angst)

It has some great songs on it that are primed for live performances, but for the most part it was a huge letdown for me. Too much screaming, too much loudness war mastering, and some incredibly dumb lyrics. It does have its gems, though.

I think it's a bad and uninspired album. Electric Messiah is the only good song from it IMO. Lyrics are mostly ridiculous.

I find "Electric Messiah" to be completely unmemorable. I like the first three. Title track is solid, a heavier take on their typical proggy epics. "Age of Innocence" and "Dehumanized" are killer live songs and reminiscent of "Fallen", "Wicked", "Domination", "Eve of Seduction", etc. I like "Heretic" and "Prometheus" musically, though the lyrics are average at best. I love the chorus for "Children of a Faceless God" for some reason. "When All is Lost" is a watered-down version of every other ballad they've ever done. "Reign in Madness" is a cool song, too. Then you've got "Bastards", "Light up the Night", and "Lords of Chaos", which could not be any more sophomoric or insulting.

Regardless, my issue with Iconoclast is that I have to find things to like in most songs, rather than simply liking them.

Electric Messiah has a nice chorus going for it. You've pretty much summed up my thoughts on that album though. I haven't spun the whole thing in awhile. My biggest issue with it is that it's so unbalanced, the heavy sound is fine, but they need to mix in some prog too, like on Paradise Lost, which is one of my favorite albums by them. It's a masterpiece.

Paradise Lost is light years better than Iconoclast. I think "Seven" is the only song I don't like, simply because it feels like the band ripping off of themselves. Granted, neither album is The Odyssey or V, but at least PL is pretty solid all the way through.

Paradise Lost is definitely my 3rd favorite after Odyssey and V. It's brutal, epic, and all around awesome. I also love how it quotes Divine Wings of Tragedy at the end.

PL is a more consistent album than Twilight or Divine Wings, but I think the good songs on those albums are better than the best on PL. Though, "Walls of Babylon" is pretty amazing.
