Themes for new Maiden album

There are no members, past or present, whose name starts with an H besides Steve. And who wouldn't notice Adrian was missing. He's a brilliant guitarist and composer.

Alexander the Great lyrics...to much use of the word "called". Called Macedonia, called Alexander. Makes me cringe a bit like when I first heard Quest for Fire. Remember I bought Piece of Mind back when it was released. I love Maiden. I've always loved Maiden. Practically got run out of junior high school for loving them (and ozzy) it was the 80's. DuranDuran and Spandau Ballet were like rap is now. They have a lot of deluded fans. But Maiden has written more consistently than any other band from my youth. Even Rush. I'm reliving my childhood through my son. He's 9 and discovered Maiden on his own with the Final Frontier. When did Crue or the Scorps come out with anything fresh? They might go out and tour and might even sound good ( if it's not lipsinced ) but Maiden never stopped writing their OWN music. They know how to party without killing themselves. I hope to see them for many more years. I can forgive them if one out of 155 songs takes a second to grow on me.

Lyrics are the least important component IMO. That being said, you're right about the "called" thing. Also, the lyrics are kind of like ".....and then he did this, and then he did that, and then this happened, and then that happened". It is, of course, however, a solid song. Just not one of their more imaginative lyrically.

I saw a video of Bruce at a business conference recently where he was railing against the inefficiency and obstructionism from civil servants in their ivory towers when it comes to doing business. How about a concept album about that. Sticking with the "I'm sick of this BS from the government" ala "Age of Innocence (very impressive lyrics, by the way).

I'd be down for that!

My rule of thumb is if I cringe sharing it with someone else I just have to keep it to myself. So many people still refuse to listen to Maiden and then I hear what they listen to. It's such a shame that what they are convinced is good gets shoved down their throats by record labels.

Sounds like my wife. All the songs are about love, gettin it on or "blowin up" some club. I cringe, she cringes. I read somewhere that Steve said once, and I'm paraphrasing "A lot of bands sing about love and 'ooh baby' and all that......but, that's a bit wimpy, isn't it?"

Ivory towers of music...RUSH did a song once called Spirit of the Radio. Just turn on a classic rock station and wait 40 minutes. I think Maiden will do a song about the NEXT thing that needs to be said. You'll slap your head and say "wow, that's right!" I want to hear something creepy and tremendous not mundane.

I remember going to Wimpy in Glasgow & this guy was in having a burger & a cup of tea (or some shit; I can't remember what he was eating...) --& we recognised him off the TV. It was Bill fucking McKaig!

Who is Bill McKaig?, I hear you ask...
That is Bill McKaig. And that was FIFTEEN to ONE!
Stick your leader board William G. Stewart. McKaig is here, & he's from the Gorbals...
