Here's what I have so far:

When I stand and look about the port and contemplate my life
Will I ever see my countrymen again?
As the captain calls us on the deck, I take my things and walk
To the harbourside I glance back one last time

Fleeing a nation, our problems we leave behind
Ships by the tenfold sail out on the tide
We are pleased to be out and embracing the open sea
Free from our troubles and more free from the...

Inheritors unfulfilled reason behind us
We flee from what is not what is will be
We flee the earth and face our harsh reality
Will death below mist that hangs on the sea

We run from evil turns, rash judgements, selfish men
Never to be seen on these shores again
As we sail into ocean size? and lose sight of land
Face of contentment around in the air

We're off now to seek our fortunes to the land
Of our dreams...

Riding the waves of the storm is upon us?
The winds lash the sails but the ropes keep them tight
Off in the distance a dark cloud approaching
None could imagine what fear was to come

No, there's no one going back
No, there's not a second chance
As we strap on to the side
We pray to God that we won't die

As we ride the rough seas, as we shook from the ocean waves
I just hope for all our lives and pray that I survive
Fortunes are lost in the stormy conditions
The spirits of the sunken crews, the phantoms full of us?

Spirit sails they drive us on
Through the all consuming waves
Cold mortality no weapon
Against these ever-wretched seas

Four leagues ____ turn angry it starts again
We just can't get away from the eye of the storm
The ______ of the raging storm but we can not escape it
with our grave, this many leagues are safe

Holding on for our dear lives
And we're praying once again
Rotten luck ___________
The Talisman is in my hand

I have other spliced bits and pieces. I'll try to get the rest of what I have together tomorrow.

The guitar accord on 2:40, 3:17, 4:07 etc is the most fine musical moment of the album. I guess it's Janick, kudos.
The solo is sooo psychedelic and unusual, again one of the most fine and inspired moments.
Guitar bridges are usual Maiden, but they fit with the whole thing, with an amazing way.
This song is a true monster and the intro, hands down.

Thanks to LC for the lyrics -how many praises this kid deserves ??

I particularly love sea songs, but when Bruce sings words like tide, deck, shore, captain, with this awesome riff behind, is really something else!
And what a fucking gallop, they should play it live, I'll get mad.

The lyrics... I can't guess from where are inspired but they are fucking brilliant!

A pure 10 for me

Janick is cleary no longer just "the third guitarist" but an integral parting of Maiden's sonic attack and writing skills.  The Talisman is, so far, my fave song on the album.  It reminds me heavily of Rime.

Texted a buddy yesterday "Talisman = Rime of the Ancient Mariner Part 2"

Filled in a couple spaces, tough one

Twenty days without a meal

______________dying storms
For scurvy rest is slaughter

Westward the tide!
Westward we sail!
Westward the tide!
Sail by the Talisman!

We'll cross the other side of the ocean with the tide
In our favour just for once, we're completing our new life
The elation in our hearts, the excitement in our face
As we sail towards the coastline of our golden promise land

Italics mean lyrics I am not sure about.

Italics mean lyrics I am not sure about.

I only have one fix that I'm almost positive on.  It is bolded.
Also, I'm still sure it's this:

Westward the tide!
Westward we sail ON!
Westward the tide!
Sail by the Talisman!

Good fix! And you could be right on the chorus.

It's hard to tell, but it sounds like there's a little bit after Sail.  He's either saying sail really strangely or he's tacking on 'on' to complete the melody.  I guess we'll find out when someone gets around to giving us complete lyrics.

Kudos on getting most of the lyrics though...  I've had no luck doing so.  I keep forgetting to write them down and I just listen to the song and go, "Oh shit, I missed three verses."

bruce seems to struggle hitting some of the higher notes as in many others songs in the album   :( :(

He said in an interview he did 80-90% of the vocals for this song in one take. In my opinion he sounds amazing like always, but at the same time it shows. I wonder if the clarity of words would improve, as well as some of the moments he seems strained. For me personally I care less about the strain, and more about the fact that he's impossible to understand at times.

I mean he spent more time singing the  intro for Number of the Beast (song) then he did this whole album. A slight exaggeration, but from what I remember, the intro for number of the beast was something like 5 hours? Didn't he do this whole album in 7 or 8?

Well, they didn't have the computer technology back in 1982 that they do now so that definitely helps to speed up the recording process. Actually, I think I saw Bruce say on a video that he likes that because he can just sing the part and then they can insert it in the song.

Well, what I know about Beast is the scream is actually him being frustrated at the time.

Just a tidbit to share.
